Overview
Create a private short link or offline QR for the current page (Pro accounts only).
Prvly Pro Linker – Private short links and offline QR, right from your browser Create end‑to‑end encrypted short links or offline QR codes for the page you’re viewing—without exposing the destination to servers. Designed for Pro users of prvly.de. Requires an active Pro subscription at prvly.de. What it does • Create private short links for the current tab • Generate offline QR codes that work without server storage • Optionally set burner clicks (auto-delete after N opens) • Optionally set custom expiration (hours to live) • Copy result to clipboard, open, or share instantly How it works (privacy by design) • Link contents are encrypted in your browser with modern AES‑GCM. • Only ciphertext and metadata are stored on the server. • The decryption key is placed after the # (URL fragment) and is never sent to servers. • When someone opens your short link, decryption happens in their browser. • Offline QR codes embed all data directly in the URL’s fragment, so nothing is stored server‑side. Pro features • Burner clicks: limit how many times a link can be opened (auto‑deletes after limit) • Custom expiration: choose how long your link should stay valid (hours to live) • Offline QR with one‑scan open (no storage; only the landing page is fetched) Note: This extension is a companion to prvly.de. Some features (like creating short links) require an active Pro subscription and a signed‑in session on prvly.de. Why trust it • Client‑side encryption: sensitive data is encrypted before it leaves your browser. • Secrets never sent: decryption keys live only in the URL fragment and never hit servers. • Transparent behavior: the extension uses your signed‑in session to call prvly.de APIs; it doesn’t collect or sell your data. Permissions (v0.2.0) • Tabs: used to read the active tab’s URL and open a helper tab on prvly.de when needed. • No storage, no scripting, no broad host permissions are requested. The extension does not read page contents. It only needs the current tab’s URL to create a link/QR. A content script is loaded only on prvly.de to enable secure messaging with the helper page. Data usage & privacy • No personal data is collected by the extension itself. • Account and plan checks happen via your signed‑in session on prvly.de. • Short link encryption happens on‑device; servers store only ciphertext, IV, and minimal metadata (expiry, click counters when enabled). • Offline QR mode stores nothing server‑side. • Refer to the prvly.de Privacy Policy for site‑level details. Requirements • A Pro subscription at prvly.de • Being signed in to prvly.de in the same browser profile • Chrome browser (Chromium‑based browsers may work but are not guaranteed) Typical uses • Share a confidential document or page with time‑limited access • Send a link that burns after a set number of views • Print an offline QR for a secure destination that doesn’t rely on server storage Getting started 1) Install the extension. 2) Sign in at prvly.de with your Pro account. 3) Open any page you want to share privately and click the extension icon. 4) Choose “Create short link” or “Create offline QR”; optionally set burner clicks or expiry. 5) Share the generated link or QR. Support • Help & docs: https://prvly.de Security notes • We use AES‑GCM with a 256‑bit key generated in your browser. • The decryption key is carried in the fragment (#), which is not transmitted to servers in standard requests. • For burner links, the server enforces the click limit and deletes ciphertext after the last allowed access. Changelog v0.2.0 • Domain updated to prvly.de throughout • Permissions reduced to Tabs only; removed storage, scripting, and broad host permissions • Content script limited to prvly.de v0.1.0 • Initial release: create encrypted short links, offline QR generation, burner clicks, custom expiry, clipboard copy, Pro plan checks. FAQ Q: Do I need a Pro subscription? A: Yes. The extension requires an active Pro plan at prvly.de. Q: Can prvly see my destination URLs? A: No. The destination is encrypted in your browser. The decryption key is never sent to the server, and decryption happens client‑side when the recipient opens the link. Q: What’s an offline QR? A: A QR whose fragment contains the encrypted payload or encoded destination. It doesn’t rely on storing anything server‑side—scan and open directly. Q: What if a link expires or reaches its burner click limit? A: The server deletes the record and returns “not found.” The ciphertext is no longer retrievable. Q: Why does the extension ask for Tabs? A: It needs the current tab URL to shorten, and to open a helper tab on prvly.de under your signed‑in session when needed. Q: Does the extension read page content? A: No. It reads only the current tab’s URL for the purpose of creating a link/QR.
