Turn good ideas into perfect prompts. PromptSmith is a simple, privacy-focused prompt engineering tool designed to help users write better instructions for ChatGPT, Claude, and Google Gemini. It integrates a "Polish" button directly into the chat toolbar. Instead of worrying about formatting, users can simply type rough thoughts, click the button, and watch the extension restructure the request into a clear, optimized prompt before sending. - Choose Your Engine The user remains in full control of the AI that powers the extension. Cloud Mode (Recommended): Connect to Google Gemini (3.0/2.0) or Groq (Llama 3.3) for the smartest and fastest results. Local Mode: Use Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano to process text entirely on-device (offline). Setup Note: Cloud mode requires a free API key. A Google or Groq account is needed to generate one, but no credit card is generally required for free tiers. - 4 Ways to Polish The extension features four distinct modes to handle different workflows: The Polisher: General cleanup. It fixes grammar, removes fluff, and ensures text is professional and concise. The Developer: Optimized for coding. It converts requests into technical specifications, requesting structured output (JSON/XML) and clean code comments. The Thinker: For complex logic. It forces the AI to "think step-by-step" before answering, ideal for math or strategy. Custom: Fully configurable. Users can add their own system instructions in the settings to create a personal style. - Privacy First PromptSmith operates on a strict privacy-first philosophy No Server: There is no backend server. The developer has no access to what is typed or what the AI polishes. Local Storage: API keys are stored securely in the browser's Sync storage, never on a third-party database. Open Source: The source code is available on GitHub for transparency. - Compatibility Cloud Mode: Works on any standard Chromium based browser.
