)Overview
Highlight a task in Gmail, right-click, and add it to your Google Sheets Project Log with a link to the email.
Project Log for Gmail connects your inbox to a Google Sheets task tracker. Turn emails into action items in seconds — no copying, no pasting, no switching between tabs. HOW IT WORKS Open any email in Gmail, highlight the task or action item in the body of the email, right-click, and select "Add to Project Log." That's it. The task instantly appears in your Google Sheets Project Log with the task name as a clickable link back to the original email, the date the email was sent, and an automatic "Days on Log" counter that tracks how long each task has been open. PERFECT FOR People who receive tasks, action items, and follow-ups via email and need a simple way to track them. Whether you manage projects, coordinate events, support faculty, or handle administrative work, this tool keeps everything organized in one spreadsheet without disrupting your email workflow. FEATURES One-click task capture: Highlight text in Gmail, right-click, done. No forms to fill out, no extra steps. Clickable email links: Every task added from Gmail includes a hyperlink back to the original email thread so you can always find the source. Automatic date tracking: The date the email was sent is captured automatically — not the date you opened it. Days on Log counter: A built-in formula counts how many days each task has been open. The counter stops when you mark the task as completed. Completed task management: Click the checkbox to mark a task done. It automatically gets a completion date, moves to the Completed section, and turns grey so you can focus on what's still active. Manual entry support: Not every task comes from email. You can type tasks directly into the spreadsheet for things that come up in meetings or conversations. The formatting, checkboxes, and formulas are added automatically. Custom sorting: Use the Project Log menu in your spreadsheet to choose whether completed tasks appear at the top or bottom, and whether tasks are sorted oldest-first or newest-first. Your preferences are saved automatically. Works on PC and Mac: The extension works in Google Chrome on any operating system. SETUP Everything you need is built right into the extension. Click the extension icon in your Chrome toolbar to get started: 1. Click the link inside the extension popup to copy the Project Log template spreadsheet to your Google Drive 2. In your copy, go to Extensions > Apps Script, then click Deploy > New deployment 3. Choose Web app, set "Execute as" to Me, set "Who has access" to Anyone, and click Deploy 4. Copy the Web App URL and paste it into the extension popup 5. You're ready to go! Setup takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. PRIVACY AND SECURITY This extension does not collect, store, or share any personal data with third parties. All data flows directly from your browser to your own Google Apps Script, which writes to your own Google Sheets spreadsheet. No external servers are involved. Your tasks stay in your Google account. The extension only requires permissions that are necessary for it to function: reading the email date from the Gmail page, adding the right-click menu option, and sending data to your Google Apps Script web app. SUPPORT For questions or help with setup, please contact project.log.chrome.extension@gmail.com.
