Watch YouTube without the swearing. Profanity Filter for YouTube mutes swear words automatically, just for the moment they're said, while the rest of the video plays normally. No skipping, no bleeps, no sign-up. Install it and press play. HOW IT WORKS • It reads the video's captions ahead of time, so it knows exactly when each swear word is coming. • It mutes the sound for that moment, then brings it right back. • It works even when captions are turned off. They're read in the background and stay hidden unless you turn on CC yourself. • It uses YouTube's auto-generated captions and the creator's captions together, so fewer words slip through. WORKS WHERE YOU WATCH • Regular YouTube videos • YouTube Shorts: every Short is filtered as you swipe • Catches YouTube's own [ __ ] masks in auto-captions, plus starred-out words like "f**k" YOU DECIDE WHAT GETS MUTED • Four categories: Profanity, Sexual, Crude, and Blasphemy. Profanity and Sexual are on by default. • Let individual words through, or add your own words and phrases. • Phrases like "oh my god" are muted by default without muting every use of "god". Turn on Blasphemy for that. • Word lists are shown starred out ("sh*t") by default, so the settings page is safe to open around kids. • Fine-tune how early and how long each mute lasts. SEE WHAT IT'S DOING • A small "Muted" badge appears in the player while a word is muted. • The toolbar icon shows how many words the current video will mute. • The popup tells you whether the current video's captions were read. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • No account and no analytics. We don't run any servers, and nothing about what you watch is collected. • Your settings are saved in Chrome (and synced by Chrome if you use Chrome Sync). • Your own mute and volume always win, and one switch turns the filter off. GOOD TO KNOW • Videos need captions to be filtered. Most videos have YouTube's auto-generated captions; a few creators turn them off. • Captions aren't perfect, so occasionally a word can slip through or a mute can be slightly early or late.
