Overview
Private spelling and grammar checks in 101 languages, run entirely on your device. Nothing you write on websites is sent anywhere.
Private Text Assistant checks your spelling and grammar in 101 languages, and it does all of it on your own device. Nothing you write on websites is sent anywhere: not to us, not to a cloud AI service, not to anyone. Many writing assistants send what you type to their servers to check it there: your emails, chat messages, contracts, medical notes and private thoughts. Private Text Assistant works differently. It uses the AI model built into Google Chrome, which runs locally on your computer. Your text is read, checked and corrected without ever leaving your browser. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ PRIVACY AND SECURITY FIRST ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🔒 Your text never leaves your device Spelling and grammar checks run on the on-device AI inside Chrome. Language detection runs locally too. The text you write, the suggestions you get and the pages you visit are processed only on your computer. 🚫 No servers, no cloud AI, no account There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log in to. There is no server that receives your writing, so there is nothing that could be leaked, sold or used to train someone else's model. 📊 No tracking The extension collects no usage analytics, no browsing history and no page content. It contains no ads. ✉️ The only exception is up to you The one thing that can ever leave your device is feedback you choose to send through the "Send feedback" form. The form shows you what will be sent, and nothing is sent until you press Send. 🗂️ Minimal local storage The extension keeps only a few settings in Chrome's local storage: the websites where you turned checking off, a correction count used to decide when to ask for a rating, and the language of the last checked text. Removing the extension deletes all of it. 🛡️ Transparent permissions • Access to websites: to find text fields and underline mistakes on the pages you write on. • Scripting: to load the extension's own checking code into tabs that were already open when it was installed or updated. • Storage: to keep the settings described above, on your device. • Offscreen document: to run the on-device model in the background when needed. • Favicons: to show website icons in your list of sites where checking is off. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHAT IT DOES ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ✏️ Underlines mistakes as you type Spelling and grammar mistakes are underlined in text boxes and editors on the websites you use. Click an underlined word to see the suggestion, then click it to fix the mistake, or dismiss it. ⚡ Fix everything at once A small badge in the corner of the field shows how many mistakes it found. Hover over it and click "Fix all" to correct every mistake in the field in one go. Corrected words light up briefly so you can see what changed. ✂️ Fix just a selection Select some text and a small "Fix errors" button appears under it, so you can correct only the part you selected. 🌍 101 languages, even mixed in one message Every sentence is checked in the language it is written in. You can write English, German and Spanish in the same email and each sentence is corrected in its own language. Brazilian and European Portuguese are told apart, so your variant's spelling and vocabulary are kept. 📝 Works where you write Text boxes, comment fields, email drafts, chat apps and rich text editors, plus Google Docs and Google Slides. In Google Docs, each page you are looking at gets its own badge and its own Fix all. 🎛️ You stay in control Turn checking off for one browsing session or always on a particular website, and turn it back on from the settings page whenever you like. A single switch in the menu turns checking on or off everywhere. 🕶️ Incognito ready Allow the extension in Incognito from Chrome's extension settings and it works there too. The menu links you straight to that setting. 🌐 Available in 33 interface languages The extension's menus and buttons are translated into 33 languages, including right-to-left layouts for Arabic, Persian and Urdu. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ REQUIREMENTS ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Private Text Assistant uses the AI model built into Google Chrome, which has its own hardware requirements: • Chrome 138 or newer on Windows 10 or 11, macOS 13 or newer, Linux, or a Chromebook Plus • At least 22 GB of free disk space • A graphics card with more than 4 GB of memory, or 16 GB of RAM and a processor with 4 or more cores • An unmetered internet connection for the one-time model download Chrome downloads the model once. If it is not on your computer yet, the extension's menu shows a download button and walks you through any setup step that is needed. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ PRIVACY POLICY ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ Read the full privacy policy, available in 33 languages, at https://privatetext.ai/privacy/ Questions: info@privatetext.ai Write freely.
