See if a store is showing you a different price than a fresh, anonymous visitor would get.

Is the store showing you a different price? And is that discount real? PriceGap is a free Chrome extension. On any product page it loads the same page again as a stranger, with no cookies, no login and no history, and puts the two prices side by side: the one you see, the one a fresh visitor sees, and the difference. Then it says why: your store, your membership, a different seller in the buy box, or you. And it grades the crossed-out "was" price against what a stranger actually pays, so "-33% off $10.99" on an item nobody buys for $10.99 is called what it is. It is also a record. Every shared check is filed by cause on the public Price Gap Wall, by store, week by week. Most days it shows that stores price by location and membership, not by person. The day one starts pricing by person, the line moves. And it has a silent mode. Switch it on and PriceGap never draws anything on a page or the toolbar: it runs in the background on the stores you chose and only collects the anonymous pricing record for the wall. For people who want the record kept and do not want to be interrupted. How it works Open a product page and press the PriceGap button. It reads the price you are being shown, right off the page. It requests the same page again with your cookies and login left out, so the store sees a first-time visitor. Some stores block that, so it can also open the page in a private window and read the price there (needs "Allow in Incognito"). You see both prices. Same, cheaper for you, or dearer for you, with the percentage. Delivery counts: when both pages show a delivery line, the comparison is item plus delivery, because a lower sticker with paid delivery can cost more all in. If the stranger's price is lower, one button opens that page in a private window so you can buy at that price. Automatic checks, per store After you have checked a store once, you can switch on automatic checks for it. Every product page you open there is checked without a click, at most once an hour per product, and the answer is shown in a small card beside the price and on the toolbar badge. On a store that blocks anonymous requests, a private window may briefly appear minimized while you browse; that is PriceGap reading the stranger's price, and it closes itself. What makes a price yours Memberships and business accounts, the store the site thinks you shop at, coupons tied to you, quantity tiers, the time of day. PriceGap reads the store on both sides. On a store that prices by location, a stranger placed at a different store is read again at yours, so pickup prices compare like for like, and the card names what the other store charges. When that is not possible it says "location, not you" rather than pretending. The Price Gap Wall Each check shares one anonymous record (the store, a one-way hash of the product, the two prices, the currency, and the cause: same store or not, same seller or not, a membership shown on the page, and how the discount claim graded) so getpricegap.com can show, per store and per week, how often a signed-in shopper is charged more than a stranger for no reason but themselves, how often a membership makes them cheaper, how often a gap was only the store, and how often a crossed-out price is one nobody pays. That is on by default, the popup tells you so the first time, and one switch turns it off. It never sends the page address or anything about you. Three ways to run it Every check (the default: the card and the badge on every product page checked). Only when something differs (a price gap, a different store, or a discount claim that does not hold; the same price draws nothing). Silent, collect only (nothing is ever drawn on a page or the toolbar; checks run in the background on the stores you switched on and only collect the anonymous pricing record; open the popup on a page to see its result). The checks and the record are the same in all three. What it never collects The address of the page. Who you are. Your history, cookies or other tabs.
