Overview
Prevent duplicate tabs from being opened
Prevent Duplicate Tabs stops duplicate tabs before they clutter Chrome. When you open a link that is already open, it closes the extra tab—or switches you to the one you already have—so you save memory, stay organized, and stop hunting through identical pages. No account and no sign-in. Your settings and your local “duplicates prevented” count stay on your device. ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── HOW IT WORKS ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── When a new tab loads, the extension compares its URL with your open tabs—across all windows or only the current window. If it finds a duplicate, it runs your chosen action right away. Set a global default, then override it per site. For example, block duplicates on most sites while allowing multiple Gmail or Docs tabs where you need them. Prevent duplicates on all websites (with exceptions), or only on sites and pages you list. When you turn the extension on or change your rules, it also cleans up matching duplicates among tabs you already have open. ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── FEATURES ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Four actions when a duplicate appears • Close the new tab and stay where you are. • Close the old tab and stay where you are. • Close the new tab and switch to the existing one. • Close the old tab and switch to the new one. Matching options • Check across all windows, or only the current window. • Optionally ignore URL parameters so pages that differ only by query strings count as the same page. Where prevention applies • All websites, except domains or pages you mark as exceptions. • Listed sites only—monitor specific domains or pages, and skip individual pages when needed. • Quick toggles for this page or this domain from the popup and options. Per-site rules • Choose a different duplicate action and parameter matching for individual domains. When you want two copies on purpose • Right-click a link and choose “Open in new tab (allow duplicate).” Quick controls • Enable or disable from the toolbar popup. • Manage lists and rules on the options page. • See open tab count and how many duplicates were prevented. ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── PRIVACY ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── The extension only manages your tabs and windows to prevent duplicates. Settings and stats stay on your device. It does not read page content or send your browsing data to external servers. See the privacy policy for details. ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── GET STARTED ──────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────── Click Add to Chrome, pin the icon, and choose your default action in the popup. You can stop accidental duplicate tabs in seconds.
