Practice Tube
Overview
Slow down, change the key, loop A-B and record your instrument over YouTube videos to practice music.
Practice Tube turns a YouTube video into a practice desk for musicians: slow it down, change its key, loop the hard part and record yourself playing along. FEATURES • Change the speed from 0.7× to 1.3× without changing the pitch • Shift the key up or down by up to a whole step, in half steps • A-B loop: set a start and an end point, turn the loop on or off, jump back to A • Play, pause and skip 5 seconds back or forward from the panel or the keyboard • Save and restore, video by video: tick the box on the Study tab and the video reopens with your last speed, key and A-B points • Record your instrument over the video with your microphone or audio interface, and play it back in sync with the song. With an interface, record input 1, input 2, or both mixed to mono • Punch in over just the part you want to fix: the rest of your recording stays as it was, and Undo brings back the previous version • Mix the video and your recording with separate volumes, with pan, mute and solo for the recording, plus a fine sync adjustment in 5 ms steps • Export your recording as a WAV file • English and Portuguese interface HOW TO USE 1. Open a video on youtube.com. 2. Click the Practice Tube icon in the Chrome toolbar. The practice panel opens on the side. 3. On the Study tab: speed, key and A-B loop. 4. To record, allow the microphone once on the Options page. Then, on the Recording tab, choose your input, press Record and play along. Use headphones, or the microphone will pick up the video too. PRIVACY Everything happens on your computer. Your recordings, settings and saved setups stay in this Chrome profile and are never uploaded. Practice Tube has no account, no analytics and no server. PERMISSIONS • "Read and change your data on www.youtube.com" — to control speed, looping and playback of the video you are practicing with, and to play your recording in sync with it. The extension does nothing on other sites. • Microphone (asked once, on the Options page) — to record your instrument. The audio is saved only on your computer. • Changing the key captures the sound of the YouTube tab so it can be shifted. This starts only after you click the extension icon on that tab. Recordings are kept until you delete them in Options or uninstall the extension. Clearing browsing history or cache does not delete them.
