PiP for Instagram Calls

Picture in Picture (PiP) for Instagram video calls. Keep the video in a floating window while you use other tabs.

Watch your Instagram video call in a small floating window while you use other tabs and apps. Instagram blocks the right-click menu on calls, so the usual picture-in-picture option is hard to reach. This extension adds a picture-in-picture button to the call toolbar. Click it and the video moves into Chrome's own floating window, which stays on top of your other windows. Click the button again, or close the floating window, to bring the video back to the call tab. FEATURES • One button in the call toolbar, next to Settings and Full screen, styled like Instagram's own controls • Uses Chrome's built-in picture-in-picture window, which you can move and resize • Picks the largest playing video when the call shows more than one • Works when Instagram opens the call without a page reload • Shows a short message when the call has no video yet HOW TO USE 1. Start or join a video call on instagram.com 2. Click the picture-in-picture button at the top right of the call 3. Switch to any other tab or app. The call keeps playing in the floating window. 4. Click the button again, or close the floating window, to return Picture-in-picture shows video only. An audio-only call, or a call where the other person has their camera off, has no video to show. PRIVACY The extension collects no data. It reads the call page only to place the button and find the video. It stores nothing, sends nothing, and has no account, login, analytics, or tracking. Your microphone and camera stay under Instagram's control. PERMISSIONS • Access to instagram.com: the only site the extension runs on. It adds the button on call pages. • Scripting: adds the button to call tabs that were already open when you install or update the extension, or when Chrome starts.
