Pointer

Create local pointers to exact text or elements on webpages and return to them later.

Pointer saves a reference to a precise place inside a webpage rather than bookmarking only the page URL. A pointer can be created from text that the user has selected or from an element chosen with Pointer's temporary pick mode. For selected text, Pointer stores the selected quote together with limited nearby context, the closest heading when available, a local selector candidate, the page title, and the page URL. For a picked element, Pointer stores a compact fingerprint based on the element's tag, visible text, accessible label or role when present, nearby heading context, and a selector candidate. This information is used only to resolve the saved target when the user opens that pointer. Opening a pointer creates the saved page and, after the page finishes loading, injects Pointer's packaged resolver. The resolver searches for the original target, scrolls it into view, and draws a temporary highlight. Resolution is intentionally conservative: when the original quote or element cannot be matched with sufficient confidence, Pointer shows a failure message instead of jumping to a merely similar location. Pointer keeps up to 60 recent pointers locally in Chrome extension storage. Items can be deleted from the popup. The extension has no account system, cloud synchronization, analytics, advertising, telemetry, remote database, or extension-initiated network requests.
