Overview

Connect AI code editors to your real browser via MCP. Automate, inspect, and debug web pages with trusted input.

Give your AI coding agent a real browser. Apex Agent connects your AI coding agent, through the open Model Context Protocol (MCP), to the Chrome you already use: your logins, your cookies, your open tabs. Your agent can open a page, read it, click, type, check the console and network, take a screenshot, find the bug, fix the code and test again, without you copying errors and screenshots back and forth. Free and open source (MIT). Everything runs on your computer. WHAT YOU NEED Apex Agent has two parts: this extension and a small local server that your coding agent starts for you (Node.js 20 or newer). Setup is one command, and there are step-by-step guides for the popular coding agents: https://github.com/RTBRuhan/ApexAgent#readme Without the server this extension has nothing to connect to. WHAT YOUR AGENT CAN DO • Read pages the way a screen reader does. Accessibility snapshots give every element a stable reference, so the agent clicks the right button instead of guessing at CSS selectors. • Act like a person: click, type, press keys, hover, scroll, drag, choose dropdown options, upload files, and answer alert and confirm dialogs. • Real input that frameworks accept. Through Chrome's debugger, clicks and keystrokes arrive as trusted events, so React, Vue and Angular forms just work. • Debug in the live page: console messages and uncaught errors, network requests with status codes, JavaScript evaluation, DOM, computed styles, storage and the accessibility tree. • Take screenshots of the viewport, a single element or the full page. • Work in its own tab. Each editor keeps the tab it was using, even if you switch tabs, and two agents can work in two tabs at the same time. • Help you build extensions: list, reload and open pages of your other extensions. • Explain itself: a status tool tells the agent whether it is connected, paused or missing a permission, so it asks you for the right switch instead of retrying blindly. YOU STAY IN CONTROL • Pause everything with one switch or Alt+Shift+P. Disconnect completely with Alt+Shift+K. • Eight permission switches (navigation, clicking and typing, screenshots, page reading, JavaScript, trusted input and debugging, other extensions, extension files) and three quick settings: Read only, Standard, Developer. Apex Agent is a developer tool, so Developer (everything on) is the default. • First connection needs your approval with a six-digit code. Nothing runs before you approve. • See who is working: the popup shows which editor made the latest request, what it did and in which tab. Disconnect one editor, or clear the history, at any time. • Password field values are never included in what the agent reads. • The toolbar badge shows the state at a glance: ON, ! (needs approval), II (paused) or OFF (disconnected). • Built to be accessible: full keyboard use, screen reader labels, high contrast and reduced motion support. WHO IT IS FOR • Developers who use AI coding agents and are tired of pasting console errors and screenshots into the chat. • Front-end and full-stack developers who want the agent to check its own work in a real browser. • QA engineers and testers who want repeatable checks written in plain language. • Extension developers who want an agent to reload, open and debug their extension. • Beginners and "vibe coders": one setup command, and the popup tells you what to do next. THINGS PEOPLE ASK THEIR AGENT "Open localhost:3000, sign up with a test account, and tell me what the console says." "The checkout button does nothing. Find out why and fix it." "Compare the mobile layout of this page with the design and list the differences." "Reload my extension, open its popup and tell me if anything throws." PRIVACY Apex Agent collects no data: no analytics, no telemetry, no account, no remote server. The extension talks only to the server on your own computer (127.0.0.1). What your agent reads in the browser goes to your coding agent, and from there to its model provider under that provider's terms, so use the permission switches and the pause switch to limit what it can see. Privacy policy: https://github.com/RTBRuhan/ApexAgent/blob/main/PRIVACY.md GOOD TO KNOW • While the debugger is in use, Chrome shows its standard "Apex Agent started debugging this browser" bar. That is Chrome telling you the truth. • Pages Chrome keeps off limits to extensions (chrome:// pages, the Chrome Web Store) cannot be controlled. • Tested in Google Chrome on Windows. Other Chromium browsers and operating systems are not verified yet. Apex Agent is an independent open-source project. Source, issues and releases: https://github.com/RTBRuhan/ApexAgent
