Look up Japanese words on any page, with the dictionary stored on your own device.

Doppuri turns any Japanese page into something you can read. Hold Shift and point at a word, or select it on a phone, and a card appears with the dictionary form, the reading, the meaning, and the sentence it came from. Japanese has no spaces, so Doppuri works out where each word starts and ends before it looks anything up — 行きました is one word, not three, and 一人 reads ひとり rather than いちにん. The dictionary is stored on your own device. Pointing at a word sends nothing to us and nothing to anybody else, and the whole thing works with the network switched off. WHAT YOU GET • Every word broken down — the pieces the word is built from, the dictionary form it comes from, and the reading • Grammar explained as grammar, so は answers as the topic marker instead of as the word for "tooth" • Your own progress on the page: whether you already know a word, are tracking it, or have a card for it • Save a word to your Doppuri deck without leaving the page, with the sentence and the page it came from attached PRIVACY Doppuri reads a page only on a site you have allowed it to, from its own popup, and you can take that permission back the same way. Until you do, it is not on any page at all. It holds no password and no account key. It can show your progress because doppuri.app hands a copy over while you have that page open in the same browser. There is no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking of any kind in this extension. JAPANESE FIRST Japanese is the only language this extension looks up today, and it only downloads a dictionary when you ask it to. Doppuri itself also reads French, and the extension will follow.
