Overview

Hover a video on YouTube or Instagram and break it into shots — palette, lighting plot, camera move, measured off the pixels.

Cutaway breaks a video down into the craft that made it — shot by shot. For each cut you get the shot timeline, the colour palette measured off the actual pixels, a lighting plot, a top-down staging plan showing where the actors and the camera stood, an exposure scope, and the camera move. This extension is how videos get in. Hover a video on any page and a small Cutaway button appears on it. One click sends that video to your library, where it is split into its cuts — free — and you open the cuts worth studying. Made for filmmakers, editors, cinematographers, AI video creators, and anyone who has ever paused a shot and wondered how it was lit. - Works on YouTube and Instagram. - Video only. Still images are not supported. - Nothing is sent until you press the button on a video you chose. - No browsing history, no page scraping, no trackers. - Connect once: press Connect, sign in on the page that opens, done. There is no token to copy and paste. You need a Cutaway account (free to create, with starting credits). Splitting a video into cuts costs nothing; opening a cut costs credits. Streaming services with DRM (Netflix and the like) are not supported and cannot be — the extension cannot read those frames.
