Overview

Pause on your terms with a brief, configurable moment card before Quartz Discover.

Take a few seconds before you decide what to open. Quartz Moments gives you configurable, card-first browser moments and a Quartz headlines feed in Chrome’s side panel. A MOMENT WITH A CHOICE When a moment is due, its card appears first. The default countdown is five seconds. Select the card to open the Quartz Moments Discover feed right away, press Cancel or Esc to dismiss, or choose Snooze 1 hour. When the countdown ends, the feed at moments.qz.com/discover/ opens or reuses only a matching Quartz Moments Discover tab; other sites are not replaced. This companion-hosted, server-rendered feed requests stories from Quartz. Selecting a headline opens the publisher separately. You can change the countdown, cadence and triggers, set quiet hours, or pause automatic moments in settings. SET YOUR RHYTHM Chrome start, idle return, unlock and wake-from-sleep triggers begin enabled in setup. On new installs, “Across six moment windows” also starts checked: moments can appear at a few set times from morning to late afternoon, even while you are working and have not stepped away. Uncheck it during setup or turn it off in Settings anytime. Existing installs keep their saved choices; a missing scheduled choice on an existing install stays off. Scheduled moments skip while the computer is idle or the screen is locked. Return and scheduled moments share quiet hours, the default six-a-day limit and at least 75 minutes of spacing by default, including after you dismiss an automatic moment. You can adjust your cadence, cancel a countdown or snooze for one hour. Manual moments from the side panel also begin with a card and countdown but bypass automatic timing limits. WHERE MOMENTS APPEAR All-page host access is required when installing in Chrome so eligible ordinary pages can host the card, even if you skip or close setup. Chrome controls installation/update approval and site access. Manage access in Chrome's extension Details. Chrome-managed withheld access, protected pages and injection failures use a temporary Quartz Moments tab without automatic permission-restoration attempts. An update expanding access may require approval or disable the extension until approved. Overlay code is injected only when a moment is due, not on ordinary page navigation. Publisher learning stays off unless separately enabled; history, bookmarks and usage sharing remain independent choices. Quartz Moments does not replace your default search engine, homepage or New Tab page. HEADLINES IN THE SIDE PANEL Open the side panel for Quartz headlines. The moment card shows Quartz sections and a short teaser; it is not a story list or personalized digest. Optional on-device interest learning separately orders the side-panel feed using signals from an allowlist of publisher sites. Learning stays off unless you separately enable it; it can be switched off or cleared. It uses page-reading and reading-progress scripts only on eligible listed publishers when enabled and permitted. Extracted article text is reduced locally and discarded. Optional Chrome history access can seed interests once from recent publisher visits; it is off unless you choose it and grant Chrome permission. OPTIONAL EXTRAS No extension account is needed. A Quartz headlines bookmark is optional and off unless you turn it on; Chrome asks for bookmark access and the setting can remove the bookmark when switched off. Usage analytics are separate from on-device learning and RID visit attribution. Sharing defaults ON when no choice is saved, but extension Mixpanel usage events are sent only after an installation-local agreement and while sharing is ON. Saved opt-outs remain OFF; merely installing or updating does not authorize sharing. You can finish setup with sharing OFF or explicitly turn it on later in Settings. Agreed events measure setup, side-panel openings, moment displays and responses, Quartz-link openings, visible Moments Discover use once per UTC day, visible Discover page and article-card impressions, and intentional article-link clicks. Discover events distinguish featured/grid placement and whether a click is the first for that measured card. They can include direct Discover visits when this extension is installed and sharing is agreed and ON. These measurements describe installations, not people, and clicks, not completed reads. No article identifiers, URLs, titles or content are sent in these Discover events. Required access to api.mixpanel.com allows agreed events to be delivered; neither that host permission nor required all-page installation access authorizes sharing. Chrome-managed withholding does not change the separate local agreement requirement. Turning sharing OFF stops future usage events and removal tracking, not RID URLs or data already received. Events use the existing stable random installation ID and ordinary network metadata, including IP address, so they are not anonymous. RID OFF does not turn agreed usage measurement OFF. See the Privacy Policy for the full boundaries and choices. Quartz visit attribution is active immediately by default on new and existing installations without a saved choice; saved opt-outs remain OFF. No separate acknowledgment or usage-sharing prerequisite is required. Eligible extension-opened Quartz content and Moments Discover links carry the existing random installation ID as lowercase rid to measure Moments-driven visits and improve Moments. Article clicks from extension-opened Discover can continue the same ID to Quartz, with the RID choice checked at each click. Turn visit attribution OFF in setup or Settings to use all features without RID. Usage sharing OFF alone does not stop RID. The default is not affirmative consent. RID is pseudonymous, not anonymous, and may reach requests, hosting logs, browser history, referrers, shared URLs, website analytics and site recipients including partners or advertisers. Quartz uses Google Analytics and Mixpanel for RID reporting; the owner states reporting records are retained for 90 days and accessible within Quartz only to employees, not a claim about all logs or URL recipients. Opt-out cannot erase earlier records or recall sent requests. Links with known advertising-click parameters remain RID-free. This is not website advertising consent. A fresh install opens the companion welcome page once. Setup is optional: eligible manual and automatic moments work with unfinished, skipped or closed setup, subject to saved settings and the usual eligibility safeguards. Skipping setup records no agreement and does not enable learning, history, bookmarks or usage sharing. The welcome URL contains no installation ID. The companion website has separate measurement choices and privacy practices, described in the Privacy Policy. ADVERTISING ON DISCOVER The companion Moments Discover website displays advertising, including advertising placements among stories and in the featured carousel. Website advertising and its privacy choices are separate from extension usage sharing and RID visit attribution. Quartz Moments does not inject these website advertisements into unrelated sites.
