Overview

Stop autoplay videos and audio on websites. Nothing plays until you click it, and background tabs can't start on their own.

PlayStop stops autoplay videos and audio on websites. Nothing plays until you click it, and background tabs can't start on their own. You open a page to read it, and a video starts above the article. Sound comes from a tab you opened ten minutes ago. PlayStop holds every video and audio player that tries to start by itself, so the page stays quiet until you press play. WHAT IT DOES • Blocks autoplay on news sites, video sites and other websites • Stops background tabs from starting video or audio on their own • Works on players embedded in a page, like a video inside an article • Keeps hover previews still, so thumbnails don't burst into video • Keeps a paused player paused, even when your headphones reconnect • Lets playlists and "next video" countdowns carry on once you're watching YOU STAY IN CONTROL • Press play and it plays, as usual • Choose "Allow this site" in the popup to let a site you trust play as usual • See, add or remove allowed sites on the Allowed sites page • Google Meet, Zoom and Microsoft Teams are allowed from the start, so video calls keep working • One switch turns PlayStop off everywhere • The number on the toolbar icon shows how many plays were blocked on the page you're on • With Chrome sync on, your settings follow you to your other computers PRIVATE BY DESIGN PlayStop collects no data. It runs entirely inside your browser, makes no network requests of its own, and keeps no record of the pages you visit. There's no account, no ads and no analytics.
