Overview
Ten free reading tools: spacing, line focus, read-aloud, syllables, tint, colour-vision correction and a full-screen reader.
Plainsight gives you ten tools for reading a web page more comfortably, and tells you which ones the research actually supports. Turn on what helps and leave the rest off. Type & Spacing sets letter, word and line spacing to the WCAG 2.2 minimums and lets you go further. Line Focus puts a ruler, shade or line mask under the line you are on. Read Aloud speaks the page with the sentence highlighted as it goes. The Focus Reader strips a page down to its article and opens it over the page, so your place, the address bar and the back button all still work. Tint & Comfort warms or dims the page; Vision Filters correct for protan, deutan and tritan colour vision. Fixation Bolding, Colour Gradient, Word Tools and Look-up help with the words themselves. Seven presets fill in coherent settings for a starting point — "Losing your place", "Light sensitivity", "Sounding words out" — and every value stays yours to change afterwards. Each tool carries an honest evidence grade in its own panel: strong, some, mixed, none yet, or evidence says no. The tools the research does not support still ship, clearly labelled, because comfort and preference are real reasons to use something. Plainsight will not tell you a tool is proven when it is not, and the two rule-based features measure their own accuracy against a held-out word list every time the Control Center opens. Plainsight makes no network requests of its own. There is no account, no paid tier and no analytics. Settings live on your computer; per-site rules never leave it. Two Chrome features can still put data on the network and both are explained in the extension and default to off or local: Chrome's own "Google" text-to-speech voices synthesise on a server, and Chrome settings sync stores your settings with Google if you switch it on. By default Plainsight only touches the tab you are on, and only when you ask. If you would rather it ran everywhere, one button grants that — and it keeps working after a browser restart, which several read-aloud extensions get wrong. **Support:** dhseadev.online · **Privacy:** https://dhseadev.online/projects/plainsight/#privacy **This version (0.3.5):** accessible confirmation dialogs for destructive actions, "Reset everything" moved to its own tab, distinct names for every tool's Settings button, a preview that stays reachable when it is pinned, no horizontal scrolling at 320px, and a redrawn icon.
