PlainSearch — Remove AI Overviews & Ads from Google
Overview
PlainSearch removes Google AI Overviews, ads and clutter from search results - one click to clean, classic results.
PlainSearch is the fastest way to remove Google AI Overviews and ads and get clean, classic web results — in one click. It strips the generative "AI Overview" answer box, sponsored results, "People also ask", "Discussions and forums" and Shopping carousels from your Google search page, then optionally switches Google into its web-only udm=14 mode so every search loads plain blue links like search used to be. PlainSearch runs entirely in your browser. There are no servers, no accounts, and no tracking — and it keeps working as Google lazy-loads more of the page thanks to a live page watcher. What PlainSearch removes (each is a one-tap toggle) • AI Overviews — the generative AI answer block at the top of results • Sponsored & ads — top, bottom and inline ad blocks • People also ask — the expanding question accordion • Discussions and forums — the social/forum module • Shopping carousels — product strips and "Popular products" • Related searches — optional, off by default One-click Classic web results Flip on Classic web results and PlainSearch appends Google's official udm=14 web-only filter to every query, so you instantly get the no-AI, no-widgets, just-the-links view. A small floating toggle on the results page lets you switch cleaning on and off without opening the popup. Why PlainSearch • 6 clutter types removed, each independently toggleable • Lightweight vanilla JavaScript — no frameworks, no remote code • Privacy-first: nothing leaves your machine • Works on google.com and country domains like google.com.au Pro (coming soon) Saved presets, Bing & DuckDuckGo cleanup, and cross-device settings sync. --- FAQ How do I remove AI Overviews from Google? Install PlainSearch and the "AI Overviews" toggle is on by default — the AI answer block is removed automatically on every Google search. You can also enable Classic web results (udm=14) to skip AI entirely. Does PlainSearch remove Google ads / sponsored results? Yes. The "Sponsored & ads" toggle hides top, bottom and inline ad blocks on the results page. Will it slow down my searches? No. PlainSearch is a small content script that hides clutter as the page loads; there's no network call and no measurable delay. Does it collect my data? No. PlainSearch has no accounts, no servers and no analytics. All settings are stored locally in your browser. What is udm=14? udm=14 is Google's own "Web" filter that returns plain link results without AI Overviews or widgets. PlainSearch can add it to every search automatically. ---
