Sorry for the extremely poor communication on this. We always kept the feature there but Google changed their policy and a chrome extension that opens another app is not a valid extension anymore and they warned that they would delete the extension unless we add another feature. This is why we renamed the app and added the record feature. Sorry about this! The feature to open Google Contacts is staying! And we're removing the recording feature now.

Update - I emailed the Developer of the old extension and he promptly sent the reply pasted below:

I transferred ownership of the Contacts extension back in January to a Nathan Ganser, a young Swiss national with a solid resume and owner of the web app he's trying to develop called nat.app. Just to reassure you, there's no way he can gain access to your account unless you grant him permission to do so. Chrome will also warn you of any new request for permissions. I'm also 99% certain he is not up to anything nefarious. His intention in buying the extension was to attract new users to his application. Maybe that didn't happen... I wish he'd given some warning or provided some other means for existing users to have a Contacts extension. Several alternatives. 1. Just bookmark Contacts 2. Once there in Windows, you can create a desktop shortcut in the Chrome settings menu under More tools. 3. Contacts is listed under the Google apps menu on all Google pages Hope this helps.
