Overview

Click Chinese characters, guess their pinyin, and turn every correct occurrence green.

Pinyin Learner turns Chinese webpages into interactive reading practice. Click any Chinese character, type its pinyin using Latin letters, and continue reading at your own pace. A correct answer is recognized immediately, marks every occurrence of that character on the page, and moves you to the next character automatically. Features: - Click any Chinese character to start practicing from that position. - Type pinyin without tone marks or tone numbers. For example, `xue` is accepted for 学. - Advance automatically as soon as an answer is correct—no need to press Enter. - Press Tab to skip forward or Shift+Tab to go back. - Press Space to look up the selected character or word in an in-page dictionary popup. - See pinyin prominently, followed by English meanings and optional Chinese explanations. - Select multiple characters or Shift-click across text to look up a complete word or phrase. - Mark every occurrence of a correctly answered character in green. - Mark looked-up characters in orange so they are easy to revisit. - Save difficult characters and words for flashcard review across pages and browser restarts. - Practice pinyin directly in flashcards; correct answers advance automatically. - Choose “Again” for more practice or “Got it” to complete a review card. Dictionary lookups use Zdic. If Zdic has no entry and returns HTTP 404, Pinyin Learner falls back to Google Translate for an English translation and Mandarin transliteration. Results appear inside the extension panel without opening a new tab. Pinyin Learner activates only when you click its toolbar icon or use its keyboard shortcut. It avoids editable fields, code blocks, SVG, MathML, and MathJax content when annotating a page.
