Overview

Hover any image, hold Shift and flick to convert it to JPG, PNG or WebP, compress or crop it. Nothing is uploaded.

Picwheel puts the file format you need under your cursor. Point at a picture on any website, hold Shift, and a dial of choices opens around it: flick toward a format and the converted file lands in your Downloads folder. It does what the browser's own Save image as dialog never did, letting you pick the type before the file is written. No right-click menu, no WebP your editor refuses to open, no online converter that wants your photo first. Handy when you collect references, build slides or grab product photos all day. Everything happens on your device, there is no account and nothing is sent to a server. 🎯 WHAT THE DIAL DOES • The first side holds the file formats, a one-page PDF among them, plus Copy and Download. Copy puts the picture on the clipboard, ready to paste into a chat or a document; Download keeps the original untouched. • One flick on "Tools" turns the dial over: cut out the background, upscale two or four times, or compress the file to a smaller size. • Crop and Resize open a full editor right over the site, so you never leave the tab. • "Remove metadata" strips camera details and GPS location before you share a photo. • A short note under the cursor confirms every result with the name and the size change, for example 2.4 MB → 610 KB. 🔧 HOW IT WORKS 1. Hover a picture: a regular photo, a CSS background, or one hidden under a transparent layer. 2. Hold Shift. The ring opens with the picture in its center and its real pixel size below. 3. Move toward a slot. It lights up and clicks into place. 4. Release the key or click. Esc, scrolling or the "Cancel" slot close it without writing anything. The dial never opens while you write in a text field or hold Ctrl, Alt or Cmd, and a click with the key held still reaches the site until you move the mouse. 🗂 RECENTS: YOUR LIGHT TABLE Click the toolbar icon to open Picwheel's own page. The last 40 pictures you grabbed through the ring wait there as local copies. Turn one into another format, edit it, select several and join them into one PDF, or compress a batch at once. Drop files from your computer there too, phone photos in HEIC included, and they get the same treatment. ⚙️ MAKE IT YOURS Rearrange the slots by dragging, add more rings and link them to each other, rename them. Choose Shift or Alt as the trigger key, set the JPG and WebP quality, mute the camera-dial clicks, and switch the ring off on sites where you don't want it. If it keeps appearing over avatars or icons somewhere, pick "Hide these" and that kind of element stays quiet on that site. Light and dark themes follow your system, in 55 languages. 💡 GOOD TO KNOW Does it get in the way when I select a range of emails or files? It stays off small thumbnails in mail rows, lists and tables, where that key means "select", and off the site's own interface icons. Are background removal and upscaling done online? No. Both run on models shipped inside the extension, on your graphics card when the browser allows it and on the processor otherwise. Does it work everywhere? On ordinary websites, yes. The browser keeps extensions out of its own settings and the Web Store, so the ring doesn't open there. 🔒 PRIVACY Picwheel converts, edits and compresses on your computer. The only thing it fetches is the picture you pointed at, from the same address the site loaded it from. Nothing goes to us or anyone else: no account, no analytics, no tracking. Recents live in the browser's local database on your device and disappear when you clear them or remove the extension. Permissions in plain words: access to all sites lets the ring work wherever you browse and read the picture you chose; "downloads" writes files to your Downloads folder; "storage" remembers your settings; "scripting" opens the editor over the tab when you pick Crop or Resize; "offscreen" runs background removal, upscaling and the dial sounds in a hidden extension page.
