pi-aside
Overview
A side-panel AI agent: ask about any page or hand it a task. It clicks, types, writes and runs its own scripts. Built on pi-durable.
pi-aside is a general AI agent in Chrome's side panel. Ask about any page, or hand it a task: it reads the page, clicks and types, moves through a site and the tabs of your tab group, writes and runs its own scripts when clicking is not enough, and shows you every step. WHAT IT CAN DO • Read with you. Select text or open pi on a page to summarize, explain, translate, proofread, or draft a reply. pi can take a screenshot of the tab to read a chart. Answers can include tables, code, and diagrams. • Do tasks, not just answer. pi clicks, types, picks options, and moves from page to page and across the tabs of your tab group. After each step it checks what happened, and it keeps going until the task is done. • Program the page, when you allow it. When clicking is too slow or cannot do the job, pi writes a short script and runs it on the page. It can turn the page bilingual, with each translated paragraph right under its original and the original left as it was; highlight what matters or add notes; collect every row of a long table or of many pages at once; and fetch data from the site with your login to work out exact answers. You see the full code before it runs, and scripts work only after you turn on Chrome's "Allow User Scripts" switch for pi-aside. • Reuse your prompts. Save a task as a prompt, and it appears in the right-click menu and as a /command in the message box. YOUR PROVIDER, YOUR KEY Use your own API key from OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, or DeepSeek, or sign in with your ChatGPT account to use your plan. There is no pi-aside server: requests go straight from your browser to the provider you choose. Each chat shows its cost as it grows. YOU STAY IN CONTROL • Before pi acts on a site, it asks you, once per site in each answer, or once for the whole chat if you choose. Settings > Tools turns each tool Off or On; acting and scripts can also Ask. • pi reads a tab only after you open it there, or on a site you allowed. • It never types into password, payment card, or one-time-code fields, and leaves what you typed into forms out of what it reads. • Every step shows in the chat. Stop, or Esc, ends the task. • pi acts as you, with your login, and models make mistakes: keep Ask for email, banking, and admin pages. TASKS THAT KEEP GOING pi-aside is built on pi-durable, a durable agent runtime. Every step is saved in your browser as it happens, so a task goes on while you switch tabs or chats, several chats can work at once, and a task picks up again if Chrome stops the extension's background worker. PRIVACY No analytics and no pi-aside server. Chats, settings, and keys stay in your Chrome profile; what pi reads goes only to the provider you chose. The privacy policy says what is sent and kept. Open source under the MIT licence. pi-aside is unofficial: OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, and the pi project do not make or endorse it. The first image is an overview; the other screenshots are real runs of GPT-6.1 Sol through a ChatGPT plan, on live sites. Results and timing vary by model and run.
