Make It Shorter is an ai summarizer for people with more to read than time for reading. A long article, an email or a single paragraph comes back as the same text, only shorter: in your language, in the tone you pick, with nothing added. How it works: 1. Click the make it shorter icon in the Chrome toolbar, and a side panel opens. 2. Your selected text appears in the panel. With nothing selected, the whole article loads instead. 3. Pick an output language and a tone. 4. Press Shorten and watch your result being written. You can also paste your own text, or pull in the whole page again with one click. 🧩 What a plain text summarizer does not do: ➤ Lists stay lists, with the same points, each one shorter. ➤ Tables stay tables, with the same columns. ➤ A document with sections keeps its sections. ➤ Pictures from an article stay next to their paragraphs. ➤ Summaries keep names, numbers and dates. ➤ Nothing made up: only what your source says. How much shorter depends on your source. A long article shrinks to its key ideas. A short paragraph keeps every point and only loses extra words. Whether you need to make it a bit shorter or make it a lot shorter, nothing important gets lost. ⚙️ Two settings you choose once: - Language. Get your summary in any of 57 languages, whatever language a page is in. No separate translator: summarization and translation in one click. - Tone. Simplified is the default: plain words and short sentences. Professional, Casual and Direct change wording, not meaning. 🎯 Everyday uses: 1️⃣ Study: read a chapter before the seminar, then make it really short for your notes. 2️⃣ Work: summarize this thread before you answer, or make it short and straight to the point before you forward it. 3️⃣ Research: an article summarizer for the first pass through a reading list, even when you summarize ai papers. 4️⃣ Looking things up: run Make It Shorter on five sources and keep the one that answers your question. When your result is ready, copy it or open it in a separate window. Copied text pastes neatly into a document, an email or a chat. The panel follows your system's light or dark theme, and results in Arabic, Persian, Hebrew and Urdu read from right to left. A new language or tone takes effect on your next press of Shorten, so the text being written now is never interrupted. A summary tells you whether an article deserves twenty minutes and which part holds the answer. When a detail decides something, like a number in a contract, go back to the source. There is AI underneath, so now and then a nuance may slip. 📌 Limits worth knowing: 📍 Summarizing is free, with a daily limit on requests per device. 📍 Up to 30,000 characters at a time. On very long pages, only the first part is shortened. 📍 Chrome's own pages, the Chrome Web Store and the built-in PDF viewer cannot be read. Copy and paste by hand there. 🔒 Your text and your privacy: - Your text is sent only to be shortened, and only when you press Shorten. Loading a page just fills the input box. - Your text is never saved, on our server or on your device. The panel holds one result and forgets it when you close it. - The extension reads a tab only after you click its icon there. It does not watch the other pages you open. - Picture addresses stay on your device.
