Infobesity
Overview
Warns about high speech density (words per minute) in the current YouTube video.
Some videos talk at you. Infobesity tells you which ones, before you commit twenty minutes to them. Fixing : Information overload, also known as infobesity, infoxication It reads the video's caption track, counts the words, divides by the runtime, and shows a small badge in the corner of the YouTube player: Badge Words per minute Meaning ------------------------------------------- 🟢 Relaxed under 150 conversational pace 🟠 Brisk 150–179 above average, still followable 🔴 Dense 180 and up sustained firehose Hover the badge for more detail: the peak minute of the video, the total word count, and the runtime. The peak matters — a video can average a calm 140 and still have a stretch that runs at 210. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO - No account, no sign-up, no settings to configure. - No data collection of any kind. Nothing is stored and nothing is sent anywhere. All analysis happens inside your own browser tab. - No analytics, no telemetry, no ads. - Only runs on youtube.com watch pages. It cannot see any other site. LIMITATIONS - The video needs captions. Auto-generated captions work fine, but a video with captions disabled entirely will show "no captions". - A small number of videos serve captions only to YouTube's own player. Those show "unavailable" rather than a wrong number. Open source under the MIT license.
