Overview

Removes personal data from your chatbot messages locally, then restores it in the replies.

Personal Data Redactor keeps your personal details out of your AI conversations. AI chatbots run on servers you don't control, and whatever you type is sent to them. This extension lets you keep using ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok without handing over your name, email, phone number or other personal details. Type as you normally would. Names, emails, phone numbers and other personal details are redacted before your message is sent, so the chatbot only sees placeholders. When the reply comes back, your real details are shown again, on your screen only. SEE IT BEFORE YOU SEND • Anything sensitive is highlighted in your message as you type, with a short list of what will be hidden. • Nothing to hide? It tells you, so you are never left guessing. REPLIES READ NATURALLY • Placeholders in the reply are swapped back to your real details automatically, including in earlier messages when you reopen a chat. • Restored details are underlined; hover one to see the placeholder the chatbot saw instead. YOU STAY IN CONTROL • Select any text and click Protect to hide it every time, for example a project name or a client. • Hover a highlight and click Unprotect if something isn't sensitive. • Review everything protected so far, and the placeholder used for each, from the status pill. • Move the pill anywhere on the page, or minimise it to a small shield. WHAT IT FINDS • Names, companies and places (in English text) • Email addresses and phone numbers • Bank account (IBAN) and card numbers • Social security and Italian fiscal code numbers • IP addresses, API keys and access tokens WORKS WITH ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok. GOOD TO KNOW • No tool catches everything. Check the highlights before you send, and use Protect for anything it missed. • It protects the text you type into the message box. Files and images you attach are not processed. • The first time you use it, a one-time setup download of about 65 MB runs in the background. Until it finishes, names, companies and places aren't covered; the status pill tells you when it's ready. PRIVACY Everything is done on your device. There are no accounts, no analytics and no servers of ours: nothing you type is sent to us. The list that links each placeholder to your real detail is stored encrypted, only in your browser, so earlier replies can be restored; you can clear it any time from the popup. A short notice when you install explains what the extension does, and nothing runs until you accept it. Not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or xAI.
