TranscriptSnap turns YouTube's caption dump into text you can actually read. Open any YouTube video with captions, click Transcribe, and you get the full transcript with the timestamps stripped, the repeated caption lines removed, the [Music] and [Applause] cues cleaned out, and the two-second fragments joined back into sentences and paragraphs. Copy it to your clipboard or save it as a .txt file. WHAT IT DOES • Pulls the transcript from any YouTube video that has captions, including auto-generated ones • Removes timestamps, sound cues and YouTube's duplicated rolling-caption lines • Rebuilds caption fragments into readable paragraphs • Copy transcript, or download as .txt named after the video • Toggle timestamps back on when you need to cite or jump to a moment • A status chip tells you exactly where you are: Ready, Transcribing, Transcribed, Copied — or a plain-English reason it couldn't PRIVACY, PROPERLY TranscriptSnap makes no network requests. Not one. It reads the transcript YouTube already renders on the page you're viewing, cleans it in your browser's memory, and shows it to you. There is no server to upload to, because there is no server. • No account, no login, no API key • No analytics, no telemetry, no third-party scripts • No transcript text is ever stored — the only thing saved is a single preference for whether timestamps are shown • Free, with no paid tier You can verify all of this yourself: open DevTools, go to the Network tab, and use the extension. Nothing comes from the extension. The source is public too. LIMITS, STATED UP FRONT If a video has no captions, there is no transcript to extract, and TranscriptSnap will tell you so rather than failing quietly. Live streams only expose a transcript once captions are finalised. Multi-language videos use whichever caption track YouTube has selected.
