Peekless keeps your private conversations private in public. It blurs WhatsApp Web so the person beside you on the train, across the café, or walking past your desk cannot read your messages — and it clears the instant you need to read them yourself. Hover any message to reveal just that one; it re-blurs the moment you move away. Everything happens on your own device. There is no account, no server, and nothing to sign up for. TWO WAYS TO USE IT Pick the one that fits where you are. • Simple protection — your chats stay blurred, and you hover to read. No camera involved at all. Right for cafés, trains, airports, coworking desks and anywhere behind you is a stranger. • Camera guard — your screen stays completely clear while you are alone, and blurs the moment a second face appears behind you. Right for your own desk, where you want to read normally but not be read over. They are deliberately mutually exclusive, so you never end up fighting a blur you asked something else to manage. IT ALSO REACTS TO WHAT A CAMERA CANNOT SEE • Click away to another window and everything blurs instantly — which also covers the moment you start a screen share, before your chats are on the call. • Switch tabs and it blurs before the tab preview can show anything. • Go idle and it dims, then blurs, after a timeout you choose. Move the mouse and it comes straight back. • A panic key blurs everything immediately. Another shortcut clears it, and that one is never locked, delayed or gated by anything. • An optional schedule keeps protection on during hours you set. You choose exactly what gets blurred: message bubbles, the chat list previews, photos and video, profile pictures, contact and group names, the media gallery, and the text box you type in. Blur strength and the reveal delay are yours to set too. OPTIONAL: TEACH IT YOUR FACE Enrol once and Peekless blurs for anyone it does not recognise — including a single person who sits down at your unlocked machine while you are away. Counting faces alone can never catch that, because one stranger is still just one face. • Only maths is stored: a list of numbers derived from your face. No photo, video frame or crop is ever saved, at any point. • It stays on that machine. It is deliberately excluded from browser sync, so it is never transmitted anywhere. • Delete it whenever you like. One button, gone immediately. This is privacy assist, not a security lock. It decides whether to blur a screen — nothing more. It is not authentication, there is no liveness detection, and a photograph held up to the camera would fool it. We would rather tell you that than imply otherwise. PRIVACY, PLAINLY • No accounts, no servers, no analytics, no telemetry, no ads, no third parties. Peekless has nowhere to send your data and no code that could. • Your messages are never read. Peekless looks at the page's structure — which element is a bubble, which is a photo — to decide what to blur. It never touches the content. • The camera is off by default and is never requested at install. If you turn it on, it runs only while a WhatsApp tab is focused and visible, takes one still frame roughly every 1.8 seconds rather than a video stream, analyses it in memory, and discards it. Your operating system's camera indicator going out when you switch away is your proof. • It works offline. The face models ship inside the extension, so nothing is ever downloaded while it runs. • It can only run on WhatsApp Web. It cannot see any other tab, any other site, or your browsing history — the permissions it asks for make that impossible, not just unlikely. WHAT IT WILL NEVER DO • Never black out your screen or trap you. Blur is always partial, and a button and a keyboard shortcut always clear it instantly. • Never put your protection behind an ad, a sign-in or a payment. • Never claim to stop someone uninstalling or disabling an extension. No extension can do that, and any that says otherwise is misleading you. GETTING STARTED Install it, open web.whatsapp.com, and reload the tab once. Protection is on immediately. Click the Peekless icon to choose your mode and what gets blurred. The camera stays off until you explicitly turn it on, and explains exactly what it does before it asks for anything.
