Overview

Grammar correction and translation powered by local Ollama LLM.

Correct & Translate is a free, open-source assistant that fixes grammar, translates, reformulates, and summarizes any text you select on a web page - using AI that runs LOCALLY on your own computer by default, so your words never leave your machine. It's built for anyone who writes in more than one language or simply wants cleaner text: emails, chat messages, documents, comments, code reviews, support replies, social posts - anywhere you can select text in the browser. WHAT YOU CAN DO - Correct: fix grammar, spelling, and punctuation while keeping your original language and meaning. - Translate: between English, German, Romanian, Spanish, and Italian. Romanian is offered both with proper diacritics and as plain ASCII ("no diacritics") for legacy or ASCII-only systems. - Reformulate: rewrite text in the tone you want - Keep tone, Professional, Friendly, or Natural - with an optional "keep terminology" switch that tells the model to leave domain-specific terms untouched. - Summarize: condense long text into a Brief, Standard, or Detailed summary, always in the text's own language. TWO WAYS TO USE IT - Right-click menu: select text on any page, right-click, and pick an action from the Correct / Translate / Reformulate menu. - Toolbar popup: paste or type text into the popup, choose an action, and get the result instantly. When you work inside an editable field, a result panel appears right next to your selection and lets you Replace the text in place or Append the result. For non-editable text, the result is copied to your clipboard automatically. Every result shows the model used, the token count, and how long it took. PRIVATE BY DEFAULT (LOCAL AI) Out of the box, the extension runs against Ollama - a free, local AI runtime you install once on your own machine. In this mode, nothing you correct or translate is ever sent over the internet; all processing stays on your computer, and no account or API key is needed. The model picker even includes a smaller option (qwen3:14b) so it runs well on machines with 16 GB of RAM. OPTIONAL: OPENAI If you'd rather not run a local model, you can opt in to OpenAI with your own API key. IMPORTANT: when OpenAI is the active provider, the text you process is sent over the internet to OpenAI's servers - it leaves your computer. This is strictly opt-in: the first time you switch to it, a one-time consent dialog explains the trade-off, and a persistent "OpenAI" badge stays visible the whole time it's active so you always know where your text is going. You can switch back to fully local at any time. WHY IT'S DIFFERENT - Privacy first: local AI by default; no servers run by the developer, and no analytics, tracking, or telemetry of any kind. - Honest about data: the only time text leaves your device is if you personally choose OpenAI, and the extension makes that impossible to miss. - Open source (MIT): the entire codebase is public. You can read it, verify exactly what it does, file issues, or contribute. - Built on Manifest V3 with a strict network policy: it can only ever talk to your local Ollama and, if you opt in, OpenAI - nothing else. It does not run any servers of its own and does not collect, sell, or share your data. Network access is restricted to your local Ollama and, if you opt in, OpenAI.
