PDF Ex turns the tables in a PDF into a spreadsheet you can work with, right in your browser. Your document is never uploaded. Most online converters ask you to upload the file first. For invoices, bank statements, payroll or anything confidential, that upload is the problem. PDF Ex does all of its work on your own computer, with no account and no server, and it keeps working offline. When a table has borders, PDF Ex uses them to separate the columns and rows. When it doesn't, it works from the position of the text. Cells that wrap onto a second line stay in their row, and a table that continues over several pages is put back together as one. Reads scanned documents Pages that are only an image are recognised and read automatically. English is included, and other languages can be added with a small one-time download of the language model. Your PDF stays on your computer. Numbers you can add up Amounts arrive as real numbers, including currency, percentages and negatives written in brackets. Both 1,234.56 and 1.234,56 styles are understood. Things that only look like numbers, such as IDs with leading zeros, long account numbers and dates, are kept exactly as written. Check before you export The preview shows every table it found. Untick the ones you don't need, or copy a single table and paste it into your spreadsheet. Keeps going in the background Close the popup during a long job and the work continues. The toolbar icon shows the progress, and the result is waiting when you come back. Handles the awkward files It asks for the password when a PDF is protected, picks up the values typed into forms, and copes with rotated pages and with documents written in Asian scripts. Safe to open Text that could act as a spreadsheet formula is defused, so a malicious PDF cannot slip a live formula into your file. SAVING YOUR RESULT Most people save straight to an Excel workbook, with one sheet per table and the column widths already set. If you need a CSV file instead, you can pick the separator that Excel expects in your region, or get a separate file for each table. A few other formats are in the menu too, for notes apps, documents and developers. HOW TO USE 1. Click the PDF Ex icon in the toolbar (or press Alt+Shift+P). 2. Upload a PDF, drag one onto the panel, or use the PDF open in your current tab. 3. Check the preview. 4. Click Download. Tips • Enter a page range such as 1-5 or 2,4,6 to process only some pages. • If a scan comes back empty, Retry with OCR runs it again without asking for the file. • Press Esc to cancel, or Ctrl+Enter to download. • Open the tool in a full tab when you want more room for large tables. ACCESSIBLE AND TRANSLATED The interface is available in six languages and follows your Chrome language setting. Text scales with your browser's font size, colours meet WCAG AA contrast in light and dark themes, and everything works from the keyboard.
