Mute Tab

Mute or unmute the current tab with a single keyboard shortcut. No tracking, no data collection.

Mute Tab does one thing: it mutes and unmutes the tab you're on, with a single keyboard shortcut. Press Option+S on macOS, or Alt+S on Windows and Linux, and the current tab goes silent. Press it again and the sound comes back. That's the whole extension. PER TAB, NOT PER SITE Muting applies to the one tab you're on — not to the whole website. Two tabs open on the same site are muted independently, and nothing is written to Chrome's site-level sound settings. Mute the noisy tab, leave the other one playing. PICK YOUR OWN SHORTCUT The defaults are Option+S on macOS and Alt+S on Windows and Linux. If that conflicts with something you already use, change it at chrome://extensions/shortcuts. NO DATA COLLECTION No analytics, no telemetry, no servers, no network requests. The extension cannot read your browsing history, your page content, or anything you type. It requests a single Chrome permission, "tabs", because Chrome requires it to change a tab's muted state — and that is the only thing it's used for. NO INTERFACE There's no popup, no toolbar clutter, no settings page. Install it, press the shortcut, done.
