Patent Element Analyzer
Overview
Analyze Google Patents pages against user-defined key claim elements using the Gemini API, then highlight supporting text in-page.
## What It Does **Patent Element Analyzer** is a Chrome extension that transforms how you research patents on Google Patents. Instead of manually reading through lengthy patent documents, this extension uses **AI-powered analysis** to automatically search for and highlight specific technical elements you care about—all directly on the patent page. Simply define the key claim elements you're interested in (e.g., "wireless communication module," "power management system"), and the extension will: - 🔍 Analyze the entire patent text using Google's Gemini AI - 🎯 Identify where each element appears (or doesn't) in the patent - 🌈 Highlight matching text in color-coded sections for easy scanning - 📊 Provide confidence levels and supporting evidence for each finding --- ## Why Install It **Save Hours of Manual Review:** Patent documents are dense, technical, and often contain 20+ pages of claims and detailed descriptions. Reading through them manually is tedious and error-prone. This extension does the heavy lifting for you. **Accelerate Patent Research:** Whether you're a patent analyst, inventor, attorney, or researcher, quickly determine if a patent contains the technical elements you're looking for. Perfect for: - **Prior Art Searches** — Find existing patents with similar elements - **Competitive Analysis** — Understand what competitors have patented - **Patent Landscape Mapping** — Analyze multiple patents at scale - **Claim Mapping** — Compare patents against specific technical requirements **AI-Powered Intelligence:** Leverages Google's Gemini AI to understand complex technical language, identify variations of elements, and provide confidence scores—not just keyword matching. **Full Control:** Define your own elements with custom names, definitions, and colors. See exactly what the AI found and why it flagged certain text. --- ## How It Works (Quick Start) ``` 1. Set up API key → Paste your Google Gemini API key once 2. Define elements → Add the technical elements you want to find 3. Open any patent → Navigate to patents.google.com 4. Click Analyze → Watch the extension scan the entire patent 5. Review results → See highlighted matches with confidence scores ``` --- ## Features - Popup settings UI for: - Gemini API key (stored locally via `chrome.storage.local`). - Selectable Gemini model (default `gemini-2.0-flash`). - Add / edit / delete key elements (name, definition, notes, color). - Test API key button. - Floating **Analyze Patent** button injected on `https://patents.google.com/*`. - Patent text extraction from Title, Abstract, Claims, Background, Summary, and Detailed Description. Long patents are auto-chunked. - Gemini analysis: returns per-element status (Explicit / Implicit / Partial / Not found), confidence, reasoning, and supporting snippets — strictly JSON. - Result panel with overall summary, per-element cards with status badges, color legend, and unmatched-snippet log. - In-page highlighting (exact match → fuzzy / sentence-level fallback) with per-element colors and tooltips. - Re-run Analysis and Clear Highlights buttons. --- ## Who Should Install This? ✅ **Patent Attorneys & Agents** — Streamline prior art searching and claim mapping ✅ **Patent Analysts & Researchers** — Analyze patent landscapes faster ✅ **Inventors & Product Managers** — Understand competitive patents at a glance ✅ **IP Specialists** — Detect infringement risks or validate design freedom ✅ **Enterprise IP Teams** — Bulk analyze patent portfolios with AI assistance --- ## Example Use Case You're an inventor developing a wireless IoT device and need to check if your design violates existing patents. **Without this extension:** You'd manually read through 10+ patents, searching for keywords like "wireless," "IoT," "mesh network," etc. This could take hours per patent. **With this extension:** Define elements like "wireless mesh communication," "low-power processor," and "cloud synchronization." Click analyze on each patent and get instant color-coded results showing where (if at all) your design overlaps. Do 10 patents in 30 minutes.
