Paneglow: Live Wallpaper for New Tab & Sites
Overview
Play your own images, GIFs and videos as live wallpaper on the new tab page and the sites you choose.
Make the browser feel like yours. Paneglow plays your own images, GIFs and videos as a full-screen wallpaper on the new tab page, and, only where you allow it, as a soft layer over websites or behind their content. Your library, on your device - Import files, whole folders, drag-and-drop or a URL, in all the common picture and video formats. - Found one on the web? Right-click any image or video and choose Add to Paneglow: into your default collection, a collection you pick, or straight onto a new tab. - Duplicates are skipped automatically. Organize items into collections, tag and rename them. - Search the library by name, tag, kind, shape, brightness, main color, size, length, source or date added: "dark images", "videos under 30 s", "tag:nature landscape". - Save a search as a smart collection that fills itself as your library changes, and play it anywhere a collection plays: the new tab, a site, a schedule. - In Chrome and Edge, link a collection to a folder on your computer: pictures and videos you save there come in on their own. - Light on your battery: huge GIFs become video, and 4K or hard-to-decode videos are re-encoded at your screen's size, on your device. The library marks anything heavy. - Wallpapers pause while you're away, so your screen can sleep. Low-power mode shows still pictures everywhere in one click, and video wallpapers can play once, or for a few seconds, then settle into a still frame. - Everything stays on your computer. No account, no uploads, no tracking. - Use more than one computer? Turn on sync (it's off until you do), and your settings, site rules, schedule, quick links and collections follow you through your browser's own sync. Your media stays where it is. A new tab that's actually nice to open - Full-screen wallpaper with no blank flash, a search box that uses your default search engine, and small controls that fade away. - A clock and the date, in your format or 12/24-hour, and quick links: your own (with your own icons and colors, dragged into any order, opened with the number keys), a bookmarks folder, or your most visited sites minus the ones you hide. - Not feeling one? "Not this one" takes it out of the collection in one click, with Undo. Love one? Heart it to see it twice as often in shuffle, or keep it on your new tab for the rest of the day. - Save the original file in one click, drop pictures and videos onto the new tab to add them, and, if you like, show an info card with the wallpaper's name, tags and the page it came from. - Sound when you want it: wallpapers start muted, and "Play sound" lets a video be heard. Or mix rain, wind, waves, a crackling fire, a café's murmur and soft noise, and save your mixes. Nothing ever plays until you click. - Six starter landscapes come with it, so your first new tab already looks good. Keep them, or remove them all in one click. - Shader wallpapers: an aurora, flowing silk, a lava lamp, dusk hills, a nebula, rain on a window and a moonlit sea, drawn live by your graphics chip, and two that set your own photo rippling or drifting. Built in, so nothing is downloaded, and gentle on power: 30 frames a second, paused when you look away. Or generate a gradient, clouds, grain or a contour map at your screen's size. On the sites you pick - Overlay: a click-through layer on top of the page at the opacity you choose. Clicks, scrolling and shortcuts work exactly as before. - Backdrop (experimental): the wallpaper behind the page's content, with built-in fixes for popular sites, in their light and dark themes. - Readable text on any wallpaper: in backdrop mode, clear a site's backgrounds and turn its text light or dark, or let Auto pick whichever reads best on the wallpaper on screen. - Per-site rules for mode, collection, opacity, fit (cover, contain or a corner sticker) and blend. - Wallpaper controls in the side panel: keep them open beside the page to see the wallpaper on screen, skip or pause it, pick another from your collection, and adjust how it looks on that site or the new tab, watching the page change as you go. Rotation and shortcuts - A new wallpaper on each new tab, on a timer, on each page load, or only when you ask. - Change with a crossfade, a fade through black or a gentle zoom, at the speed you like, and soften any wallpaper with blur, dim or a color tint: on the new tab, and per site. - Shuffle that never repeats until it has shown everything (your favorites twice). - Keyboard shortcuts for next, pause, and turning the layer on or off for a site. Wallpapers that fit what you're doing - Scenes: save your setup as Work, Home or anything else, and switch your wallpapers, site layers and new tab together in one click, or with a shortcut you choose. - Give a tab group its own wallpapers: every tab in it plays them, on the new tab and on your sites. In Firefox, containers can have their own too. Share collections as packs, and back up everything - Export a collection as one .wallpack file and import packs from friends, with a preview before anything is added. - Back up your whole library, settings, site rules and quick links to one file, and restore it on any computer: merge it into what's there, or replace everything. Free, with no account. Works in incognito and private windows too, once you allow it there. Paneglow Pro, if you like - Paneglow Pro is an optional subscription: $2.99 a month or $24.99 a year, cancel any time. It adds 2.5D depth for your still photos, every shader wallpaper (a sampler is free), a soundscape mixer, film grain, vignettes and color grades with wipe, iris and blinds transitions, more clock faces and fonts, and scenes and tab group wallpapers, with new Pro features and shader scenes as they arrive. - Everything else is free, including your own videos and photos on the new tab and behind the sites you pick. If you cancel, nothing is deleted: Pro features show as their free versions, and everything comes back if you subscribe again. - Pro is offered only in the extension's Settings page, never on your new tab. Site access is optional and asked for one site at a time. The extension never reads page content. No ads, no tracking, no account. Everything free today stays free.
