PageGist
Overview
AI marginalia for the modern web. Summarize, explain, and explore any page instantly with Gemini Nano and other AI providers.
PageGist adds an AI side panel to Chrome that lets you summarize, explain, and have a conversation with any web page — without leaving the tab. Click the toolbar icon, paste a free Groq API key (takes about 30 seconds, no credit card), and start asking questions about whatever you're reading. Highlight text for instant explanations, summaries, or counterarguments — or just type a question. BRING YOUR OWN KEY PageGist is built around a BYOK (bring your own key) model. Your data goes directly from your browser to the AI provider you choose — there are no PageGist servers in the middle. Currently supported providers: Groq — free tier, fast inference. The recommended default; works on any device. Anthropic — pay-as-you-go access to Claude models. Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano — fully on-device and free with no API key, for the subset of devices that already support Chrome's experimental Prompt API. OpenAI, Google AI Studio, OpenRouter, and Ollama (local) are coming in v0.2. FEATURES Instant summaries — get the gist of any article, thread, documentation page, or report in seconds. Conversational Q&A — ask follow-up questions and explore the page content in a natural dialogue. Per-URL history — conversations are saved per page in local browser storage, so you can pick up where you left off. Token and cost counter — an optional footer shows estimated token usage and cost per session. Configurable page reading limit — control how much of the page is sent to the model (500 to 30,000 tokens). Data export and clear — export all your data as JSON, or wipe your conversation history at any time from the settings page. PRIVACY PageGist has no backend server. All processing happens in your browser and through the AI provider you select. API keys are obfuscated in local storage so they are not visible at a glance in Chrome DevTools. Telemetry is off by default. REQUIREMENTS Chrome, any recent version. You'll need a free API key from Groq (or a paid key from Anthropic if you prefer). On-device Gemini Nano is available as a bonus option on devices that already have Chrome's experimental Prompt API enabled — not required to use PageGist.
