PageChat — Chat with webpages

Select text to get concise AI explanations in a side panel. Keep chatting with page context, in English or Chinese.

Select a passage, understand it in context, and keep asking questions without leaving the page. PageChat opens beside your webpage. Select text and click its small chat icon for a concise explanation informed by the page’s readable text. Ask follow-up questions or select another passage to continue the conversation. Switch between English and Simplified Chinese in Settings. New AI answers follow your chosen language unless you ask for another. Choose light, dark, or system appearance. Responses appear progressively; one button lets you send or stop while keeping your draft. Conversations stay separate for each tab and page. Local HTML files are supported after you enable “Allow access to file URLs” in Chrome’s extension details. Moving between sections of one local document keeps the same conversation. Connect your own compatible AI service or a local Magpie gateway in Settings, load its models, and choose one. The service and required credentials are supplied by you. PageChat does not include an AI subscription or free credits. Its default connection is a local Magpie gateway on your computer. Before your first AI request, PageChat explains the data flow and asks for your agreement. Page text, title, URL, selected passages, and conversation are sent to your chosen endpoint and its configured AI provider. There is no advertising, telemetry, or developer-operated content server. Credentials and settings stay in local extension storage. Chats can be cleared and are removed when their tab closes or the browser restarts. Chrome internal pages, the extension store, PDFs, iframe contents, text inside images, and content the page has not loaded are not supported.
