Page to Markdown for AI
Overview
Export the current page, or a page and its linked pages one level deep, as clean Markdown ready to feed to an AI.
## Extension name Page to Markdown for AI ## Category Productivity (alt: Developer Tools) ## Short description (max 132 chars) Turn any page — or a manual's linked pages, one level deep — into clean Markdown ready to feed an AI. ## Detailed description Page to Markdown for AI converts what you're reading into clean, structured Markdown you can paste straight into an AI chat (Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) or save as a knowledge-base file. Two actions, one click each: 1. Export This Page — extracts the main content of the current page (article, docs page, user manual, blog post) and downloads it as a single .md file. Headings, lists, tables, code blocks, links, and images are preserved. 2. Export Linked Pages (1 level deep) — for multi-page documentation or manuals with a sidebar/menu of sub-pages, this scans all links on the page, lets you check or uncheck which ones to include (all selected by default), then crawls each selected page and combines everything into one Markdown file with a table of contents. Why it's useful: - Feed long docs or manuals to an AI without messy HTML, ads, or navigation chrome in the way. - Build a local knowledge base of a product's documentation in one export. - No account, no sign-up, no external servers — conversion happens entirely in your browser. Privacy: - The extension does not collect, transmit, or store your browsing data anywhere. - It only reads the page(s) you explicitly export, and any linked pages you explicitly fetch by clicking export. - Files are saved directly to your computer via Chrome's downloads. ## Permission justifications (for the review form) - activeTab / scripting: needed to read the content of the page you click "export" on, and to run the Markdown-conversion logic inside that page. - downloads: needed to save the generated .md file(s) to your computer. - offscreen: needed to parse the HTML of linked pages you select in feature 2 (service workers have no DOM, so an offscreen document is used to safely parse fetched HTML before converting it to Markdown). - host_permissions (<all_urls>): the extension works on any site the user chooses to export from, and feature 2 needs to fetch the specific linked pages the user selects, which can be on any domain. No host is contacted automatically — only pages the user explicitly triggers an export from/for. ## Screenshots to capture (1280x800 or 640x400 PNG, at least 1 required) 1. The popup open on a real docs/manual page, showing "Export This Page". 2. The popup's link-selection list (Section 2) with checkboxes, on a multi-page manual. 3. (Optional) The resulting .md file opened in a text editor, showing clean formatting. ## Promotional tile (optional, 440x280) and marquee (1400x560) Not required for a first submission — can be added later.
