Overview
Interactive subtitles for videos: click a word for its meaning at your level, translate a line, save words for your flashcards.
Learn a language from the videos you watch and the pages you read: look words up, translate sentences, and save what you learn as flashcards. INTERACTIVE SUBTITLES ON YOUTUBE AND NETFLIX • Subtitles in the language you're learning (English, German or Persian) over the site's own player, fullscreen included. • Click a word: the video pauses and you see its meaning in your language, explained at your level (A1–C2). A word you've already looked up in the same video shows its meaning again on hover, at no extra cost. • Drag across two words (a name, or a word and its partner) to look them up together. • Auto-pause at the end of each line, replay a line, or jump to the previous or next one, with the toolbar or the keys A, R, D and Q. • A transcript of the whole video, adjustable text size, and subtitles you can move up, away from subtitles burned into the picture (remembered per YouTube channel). TRANSLATION INTO YOUR LANGUAGE • Translate the subtitle line on screen with one click, or switch on translation for every line. • Drag across three words or more in a subtitle to translate them as a sentence. • With the dictionary on web pages switched on, select a sentence or a whole paragraph of any page and see its translation right next to it. DICTIONARY ON WEB PAGES (OPTIONAL) • Switch it on to look up any word on the page you're reading with a double-click, or with a click or a click with Ctrl, Shift or Alt, as you choose. • Select two words to look them up together, or three or more to translate them. • It reads a page only at the moment you look something up. SAVE WORDS FOR YOUR FLASHCARDS • Save a word with one click. It keeps its sentence and a new example of the meaning it had there. • Add your saved words to a flashcard deck on oropen.com and review them with spaced repetition (FSRS). WHAT YOU NEED • An Oropen account. Meanings and translations are written by AI and use AI units from your account. • Your languages and level come from your Oropen settings. The extension is available in English, German and Persian. PRIVACY • Text from a video or a page is sent to Oropen only when you look something up or translate it, or, while you have it switched on, to translate every line. • The extension never sends us the addresses of the pages you visit or your viewing history, and it contains no analytics or advertising code. • Privacy policy: https://oropen.com/privacy Oropen is not affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube, Netflix, Blender Foundation or the Wikimedia Foundation.
