OpenFront Chat (Community)

Community chat for OpenFront.io players — chat in the lobby, in FFA matches, or with teammates in team games.

OpenFront Chat (Community) adds a small, native-feeling text-chat panel to openfront.io so players can actually talk to each other while they play. The game's built-in emoji and quick-chat are handy but limited — this extension gives you full sentences. Where the chat appears: - Lobby / main page: a Global Chat that any extension user can join. Great for saying hi, organising a match, or asking who wants to team up. - Team matches: a private Team Chat, scoped to your team only — teammates see your messages, opponents do not. - FFA and other multiplayer modes: a per-match Game Chat where everyone in that specific game can talk. - Single-player: the chat is detected and stays disabled. Nothing runs in the background for solo games. How it works: - Your nickname and team are read from your existing OpenFront settings (localStorage). There is no account, no signup, and no separate profile to maintain. - The chat panel sits in the corner and can be minimised. Press V to focus the input; Escape to blur; Enter to send. - Messages travel over a secure WebSocket (wss://) to a small relay server operated by the author. The relay does not persist chat history — messages exist only in the memory of connected clients and disappear the moment the socket closes. - No analytics, no advertising, no tracking.
