Save, search, and reopen browser tab sessions.
Open Tab Saver - Session Manager Open Tab Saver - Session Manager is a privacy-focused Chrome extension for saving, organizing, restoring, and exporting browser tab sessions. It is designed for people who work across research, projects, reading lists, and temporary browsing tasks and want to return to a group of tabs later. Current release: 2.4.0 Creator: DMeena Labs 1. What the extension does The extension turns the currently open browser tabs into a saved session. A session records the information needed to recognize and reopen those tabs later: - Page title - Page URL - Tab order - Capture date and time - Optional session name - Capture source: manual or automatic Sessions are kept in the extension library until the user renames, removes, or clears them. 2. Capture tabs 2.1. Capture the current window Use **Capture this window** from the toolbar popup or the session library. The extension reads the eligible tabs in the active browser window, preserves their order, and saves them as one new session. 2.2. Capture selected browser windows Use **Capture all browser windows** when more than one normal browser window is open. The extension shows a browser-window selection dialog. Select the windows to include, then confirm. Every eligible tab in each selected window is captured in one session. The selection is made at the browser-window level, not at the individual-tab level. This makes it possible to save all tabs from one or more complete windows without mixing in other open windows. 2.3. Name a session Enter an optional name before capturing. Names are limited to 80 characters and can be searched later. If no name is provided, the session is shown as an untitled session with its capture date. 2.4. Tabs that are skipped The extension captures ordinary `http:`, `https:`, and supported `file:` URLs. It skips: - Incognito or private tabs - Browser-internal pages such as `chrome://` pages - Extension-internal pages - Other URLs that Chrome does not allow an extension to reopen If a capture contains skipped tabs, the extension reports how many were unavailable or private. A session is not created when no eligible tabs remain. 3. Automatic capture Automatic capture can be enabled from **Settings** in the session library. - Choose an interval from 1 minute to 24 hours. - Automatic capture checks all normal browser windows. - The latest automatic session is compared with the current eligible URL list. - If the URL list has not changed, a duplicate snapshot is skipped. - Automatic captures are marked separately from manual captures in the library. Automatic capture runs through Chrome alarms, so it does not depend on a popup remaining open. The setting can be disabled at any time. 4. Find and manage sessions The session library provides: - Search by session name, capture source, date, page title, or URL. - Filters for all sessions, manual captures, or automatic captures. - Sorting by newest, oldest, or number of saved tabs. - A summary of saved sessions, total tabs, and the latest capture. - A detail view showing every saved tab. From a session detail view, you can: - Rename the session. - Delete the complete session. - Remove one tab without deleting the other tabs in the session. - Open all restorable tabs. - Export the session as CSV. Removing a tab changes only the saved session. It does not close or change the live browser tab. 5. Restore sessions When restoring a session, choose one of these destinations: - **New window**: opens the saved tabs together in one new browser window. - **Current window**: adds the saved tabs to the selected current window. The first restore asks for a destination. The choice can be remembered as the default and changed later from Settings. Unsupported or internal URLs are not reopened during restoration. 6. Export and import 6.1. CSV export Export a single session as a CSV file containing its capture date, tab titles, and URLs. The file can be opened in spreadsheet applications such as Microsoft Excel. 6.2. JSON backup The library Settings page can download a complete JSON backup of the saved sessions. The backup includes the session metadata and saved tab records. 6.3. JSON import Import merges valid sessions into the current library. Duplicate sessions are skipped using their timestamp and ordered URL list. Invalid rows and empty sessions are skipped without replacing existing data. Backups are local files chosen by the user. The extension does not upload them to a developer service. 7. Storage and privacy Open Tab Saver - Session Manager is designed to work without an account or developer server. - Saved sessions are stored in this browser's local extension storage. - Session data is not synced between devices by the extension. - Chrome Sync may store only the automatic-capture and restore-destination preferences when Chrome makes sync storage available. - There are no ads, analytics, tracking pixels, telemetry, or developer-hosted database. - Imported backups remain local unless the user manually shares them through another application. - Incognito tabs are intentionally excluded from captures.
