Open iCloud Passwords is an independent, open-source (Apache-2.0) client that autofills logins already saved in your macOS iCloud Keychain. It is NOT made by, affiliated with, or endorsed by Apple Inc. "iCloud" and "iCloud Keychain" are trademarks of Apple Inc., used here only to describe compatibility. WHAT IT DOES Single purpose: fill usernames and passwords from your local iCloud Keychain into login forms, via an inline dropdown on login fields or the toolbar popup. HOW IT WORKS It talks to Apple's own on-device helper (PasswordManagerBrowserExtensionHelper) over native messaging. An SRP-6a handshake — where the 6-digit code shown on your Mac is the shared secret — establishes an AES-GCM channel. Passwords never leave your machine and are never sent to any server. REQUIREMENTS - macOS 14+ signed in to iCloud with Passwords enabled - Reading a password may prompt Touch ID; that is macOS, not this extension PRIVACY No analytics, no remote servers, no data collection. Session keys live only in memory.
