Overview

Open bookmarks and favorites in a new tab instead of replacing the page you are already reading.

Open Favorites in New Tab keeps the page you are reading in place when you click a bookmark or a favorite. By default, Chromium browsers load a favorite in the current tab. That replaces the article, form, or dashboard you were using. This extension watches for those clicks and opens the favorite in a new tab instead. If you click a favorite from a blank or new tab, the address still loads in that tab. How it works • Click any item on the favorites or bookmarks bar. • The current page stays where it is. • The favorite opens in a new tab next to the one you were using. • Use the toolbar popup to pause or resume the behavior at any time. What it does not do • It does not rewrite, delete, or upload your bookmarks. • It does not change bookmark folders or the favorites bar layout. • It does not collect browsing history or send data to a server. • It does not inject ads, trackers, or extra toolbars. Permissions • Bookmarks — used only to recognize which URLs are favorites so ordinary links on a page are left alone. • Tabs — used to open the favorite in a new tab and restore the previous page. • Storage — used only to remember whether the feature is on or paused. A brief flash of the favorite in the current tab can appear before the original page returns. That is a limitation of how browsers expose bookmark clicks, not a change to your saved URLs. Single purpose: open bookmarks and favorites in a new tab.
