Online Metronome — Tap Tempo, BPM & Time Signatures
Overview
Set 20–300 BPM for music practice with time signatures and subdivisions. Follow the pendulum, adjust sound, or tap a song's pace.
Online Metronome puts a steady pulse in your toolbar popup, ready when you sit down to practice. Set the speed, press play, and follow the moving pendulum or listen to the accented downbeat. It works offline, without opening a music website. The beat plays while the popup remains open. Clicking outside closes it and stops playback, so keep the controls visible during your session. This is a practice aid you operate directly, rather than an audio track that continues behind other tabs. 🎚️ WHAT YOU GET • Adjust speed from 20 to 300 BPM using a number field or slider, with minus and plus controls for smaller changes. • Choose from four time signatures and hear an accent on the first pulse of each bar. • Add eighth notes, triplets or sixteenth notes to hear the space between beats. • Choose between five different sounds and adjust the volume while watching the step lights. 🖐️ FIND THE PACE OF A SONG Tap tempo lets you set a rate by feel instead of typing a number. Press the TAP button or T along with the recording. The BPM counter averages up to eight taps and resets after a pause of two seconds. A preset menu offers named starting speeds, such as Largo or Allegro. You can adjust the value afterwards to suit an exercise, rather than being locked to the preset. 🔧 HOW IT WORKS 1. Click the extension icon to open the controls. 2. Enter a speed and select your meter. 3. Choose a subdivision and sound. 4. Press play or Space to start; press again to stop. Your settings are saved locally for the next session, including volume. The popup follows your system's light or dark theme. 💡 GOOD TO KNOW Can I use this metronome for guitar or piano practice? Yes. Start a difficult passage slowly, then raise the pace as your timing settles. Drummers can use subdivisions to check where a fill lands within the bar. How does a visual metronome help? The pendulum and lights give a visible timing reference. Turn the volume down if you want to follow the rhythm silently. Why does 6/8 count six pulses? The display marks each eighth-note position and accents the first. For a 3/4 waltz, select that meter instead. 🔒 PRIVACY Sound is generated on your computer and needs no network connection. The extension uses storage to remember your choices. It needs no account and does not send your practice data to a server.
