You need to run a batch file that launches a Tor connection in cmd, then go back to Chrome... It's essentially just the Onion browser with extra steps. What's the point?

Yes, it does work, but you need to read the FAQ after installing the browser extension. In a nutshell, you need to install a little program, downloadable on GitHub, and run it (it will open in the terminal). It acts as a proxy server in the background. Then you need to open your browser extension options, and to get it connected to the local TOR proxy (click the purple bunch of grapes logo). When you click on the run.sh file on MacOS it does not start, but only calls a text editor. Besides there is no win folder in mac.zip archive as indicated in your FAQ 2.
