Omniscope

Removes black bars from YouTube videos and fills the player. Only videos that have bars — full-frame videos are never zoomed.

Watch the movie, not the border. Widescreen films, trailers and music videos on YouTube are usually uploaded with black bars baked into the picture, top and bottom (letterbox), or down the sides (pillarbox). Omniscope removes them and fills the player with the picture, so you get the whole screen you paid for. WHY THIS ONE Most "zoom to fill" extensions enlarge whatever is on screen and leave you to undo it. Omniscope measures the actual pixels of the video, several times a second, and fills only when black bars are genuinely there. A video that already fills the frame is left completely alone — dark scenes, night footage, concerts, stand-up stages and black studio backgrounds included. Nothing to switch on, nothing to switch off, nothing cropped by mistake. NO STRETCHING, NO WARPED FACES The picture is scaled evenly. Fill strength is 0 by default: a pure uniform zoom with zero distortion. A slider lets you trade a little edge stretch to keep more of the sides if you prefer. BLACK BARS WITH LOGOS, HANDLES OR SUBTITLES STILL COUNT Channel logos, @handles, subscribe banners, scrolling tickers and burned-in subtitles sitting inside the black bars go with them. CONTROLS IN THE PLAYER, NOT IN A POPUP An Omniscope button sits in YouTube's own control bar. One click opens: on/off, fill strength, centre protect, picture-in-picture of the filled picture, and a live readout showing status, the detected aspect ratio and fps. WORKS THE WAY YOU WATCH • Ads are never touched. • Shorts, the home feed and search are never touched. • Pause, seek, scene cuts and aspect changes (IMAX sections, 2.39:1 to 1.90:1) are handled. • Films uploaded in their own widescreen shape (2.39:1, 2:1) or in 4:3, which YouTube letterboxes or pillarboxes inside its 16:9 player, are filled too. • Ultrawide monitors: in full screen on a 21:9 display, a 2.39:1 film fills the screen edge to edge. FAST AND COMPLETELY LOCAL Rendered on your GPU (WebGPU, with a WebGL2 fallback) with a sharp Catmull-Rom filter. No permissions are requested, no network requests are made, and there are no analytics, no trackers and no storage. Video frames, URLs and viewing history never leave your computer.
