Overtype edits the actual text inside a PDF. It removes the original glyphs from the page and redraws your changes in a matching font, instead of putting an opaque box over the old text. Everything happens locally in your browser: your files never leave your machine, and the extension makes no network requests while you work. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Edit existing text: fix a word or rewrite a paragraph and it reflows in the document's own font • Add new text anywhere on a page, matched to the surrounding style • Whiteout: movable, resizable cover boxes with adjustable color and opacity • Redact: permanently remove text under a region, bar it out, and verify it's gone. Redact every occurrence of a name or number in one step, and download a redaction report for your records • Bates numbering for legal exhibits • Fill in any PDF form (text, checkboxes, radio buttons, dropdowns), or make your own fillable with text fields and checkboxes • Shapes, pictures, signatures, highlights, and a freehand pen • Pages: merge, split, insert, delete, reorder, rotate, crop, resize to Letter or A4, extract, and export pages as images • Reduce file size, and recolor to grayscale, sepia, or black & white • OCR for scanned pages, on your computer, nothing uploaded • Quick delete, undo/redo, find & replace, zoom, and one-click save • Make it your PDF viewer: optional auto-open sends .pdf links straight into Overtype, and "Open in Overtype" sits in the right-click menu of any PDF link or page PRIVACY BY DESIGN • No file is ever uploaded; all editing is on-device • No analytics, no telemetry, no accounts • Permissions are minimal: local storage (export counter, license, and the working copy that lets you restore unsaved edits), and, only if you switch on auto-open, a rule that sends .pdf links into the editor.
