Shift+Enter New Line for Google Sheets
Overview
Press Shift+Enter to add a line break inside a Google Sheets cell, instead of committing the edit and jumping up a row.
Typing in a Google Sheets cell and pressing Shift+Enter for a new line? Frustrated when sheets commits the edit, exits the cell, and moves the selection up a row? Despite Shift+Enter being the near-universal new line shortcut in apps, editors, and other web apps, Sheets has never supported it for line breaks. Its own shortcut is Cmd+Enter (Mac) or Ctrl+Enter (Windows). This extension makes Shift+Enter insert a real line break while you're editing a cell. Nothing else changes: when you aren't editing a cell, Shift+Enter behaves exactly as before. - Inserts a true newline (character code 10), so SPLIT, CHAR(10), and exports treat it normally - No permissions, no network requests, no data collected - Runs only on docs.google.com/spreadsheets Tested on Chrome for macOS; highly expected to work on Windows and other platforms as well.
