Omarchy Tile Mode for YouTube

Fill your tile with the video instead of taking over the whole monitor, and repaint YouTube with your Omarchy theme.

Omarchy runs YouTube as a Chromium web app, which means it is an ordinary window in your tiling layout. That exposes a gap in YouTube itself: it only knows two sizes. Either the player sits in the middle of the page surrounded by a sidebar, a comment section and a masthead, or you press f and it calls the browser's Fullscreen API — which promotes the window to cover your entire monitor and yanks it out of the tiling layout. Neither is what you want. You want the video to fill the tile you already gave it. This extension adds that missing third state. TILE MODE Press f and the player fills the window edge to edge. No Fullscreen API, no layout change, no monitor takeover. The window stays exactly where your tiling layout put it, so the video sits next to your terminal instead of swallowing the screen. Shift+F is left alone and still gives you real fullscreen for the times you actually want it. Videos open in tile mode automatically. You can turn that off. ZOOM TO FILL A tile is almost never 16:9. Fit a widescreen video into a tall or narrow one and you get black bars down two sides — you asked for the whole tile and got two thirds of it. Press z to crop the video to the tile's real aspect ratio instead. It fills the space completely. OMARCHY THEMING All 22 stock Omarchy palettes are built in, light themes included. Pick one from the settings overlay and YouTube is recolored to match your desktop. The colors are mapped onto YouTube's own internal design tokens rather than a handful of hand-picked elements, so the recoloring reaches the whole app — menus, chips, dialogs, the player scrubber — and keeps working across YouTube's redesigns. Installing from source instead of the store gets you one thing this build cannot do: a hook that follows your live Omarchy theme, so switching desktop themes recolors YouTube with it. A store-installed extension lives in a signed, read-only directory, which leaves nowhere for that to be written. Hence the picker. KEYBOARD f — toggle tile mode Shift+F — real fullscreen z — zoom to fill Esc — leave tile mode Alt+S — settings Double-clicking the player toggles tile mode too, since YouTube's double-click otherwise means fullscreen. Settings live behind Alt+S rather than a toolbar button because the whole point is the web app window, and that window has no toolbar to put a button in. STAYS OUT OF THE WAY None of this applies to YouTube in a normal browser tab. The extension checks whether it is running in a web app window — one with no tab strip and no address bar — and stays completely dormant otherwise: no theming, no tile mode, no rebound keys. If you want it everywhere, one checkbox in the settings turns that off. PRIVACY No accounts, no tracking, no telemetry, no network requests of any kind.
