Overview

Say assessment marks aloud and QLA Voice types them into your online marksheet. Speech is recognised on your computer.

QLA Voice is for teachers entering question-level assessment marks. Keep your eyes on the paper and read the marks aloud – "one, two, zero, three…" – and QLA Voice types each one into your online marksheet, Google Sheet or Excel on the web. HOW IT WORKS • Click the first mark box (or cell) and press Start in the QLA Voice side panel. • Read the marks. Each one goes into the box you selected, then QLA Voice moves to the next one (across the row or down the column). • Say "back" to undo the last mark, or "stop" to finish. • The side panel stays open while you work, showing your recent entries. DESIGNED FOR ACCURACY • It accepts only the numbers 0–10 and the words "back" and "stop". A second check on your computer rejects other speech. • It's designed to ignore conversation – in our tests, sentences such as "Sam, have you got the maths books?" entered nothing. • If its two checks disagree, it enters nothing and beeps, so you just say the mark again. • It respects your marksheet's own limits and checks, and an optional maximum mark refuses marks that are too high. • Please check your marks: very occasionally a single word that sounds like a number can be entered. PRIVATE BY DESIGN • Speech is recognised on your own computer. QLA Voice sends nothing to us or anyone else – your marks go only into your marksheet, which saves them as it normally would. • It only works on a page after you start it there. It doesn't read pupil names, labels or the contents of other boxes. WHERE IT WORKS • Online marksheets made of ordinary boxes (text, number and drop-down boxes), such as NTS. • Google Sheets and Excel on the web. There, Chrome shows "QLA Voice started debugging this browser" while it's listening: that's how it presses the number keys. It stops if you switch to another tab. • Some assessment systems use custom grids that may not work – please check yours before relying on it. A licence key is needed: qlavoice.co.uk
