HOW IT WORKS Old Internet runs entirely in your browser. It uses your existing X/Twitter login to render your own timeline through X's own interface — nothing is sent to any third-party server. Toggle it off anytime to return to the standard X experience. GETTING STARTED 1. Install the extension. 2. Visit x.com while logged in — your timeline loads in the Old Internet layout. 3. "X" and "Twitter" are trademarks of their respective owners and are used here only to describe the websites this extension works with. ================================================== SINGLE PURPOSE (Privacy tab) ================================================== Old Internet restores the classic ("old") Twitter interface on x.com and twitter.com by replacing the modern web UI with a retro layout rendered in the browser. ================================================== PERMISSION JUSTIFICATIONS (one per field) ================================================== storage Save the user's layout preferences and settings locally. unlimitedStorage Cache rendered timeline and profile data so the classic UI loads quickly without storage-quota errors. declarativeNetRequest Apply the bundled static ruleset to adjust requests so the classic UI loads on x.com and twitter.com. scripting Inject the scripts that build the classic interface on supported pages. activeTab Toggle the layout on the current tab when the user clicks the toolbar icon. (If unused in code, remove it from the manifest.) Host permissions (x.com, twitter.com, twimg.com) Required to read and rewrite the X/Twitter UI and load the user's own timeline, profile, and media. ================================================== REMOTE CODE ================================================== No. All libraries are bundled locally under libraries/. The extension does not load or execute remotely hosted code. ================================================== DATA USAGE ================================================== The extension reads the signed-in user's X/Twitter data only to render it in the browser. It does not transmit user data to any developer or third-party server, does not sell or transfer user data, and does not use data for purposes unrelated to its single purpose. Settings are stored locally via chrome.storage.
