The Old Handwriting browser extension is the easiest way to quickly transcribe old handwritten text that you find online. The Old Handwriting browser extension can be opened and used on any webpage. When you encounter a webpage with handwritten text that you have trouble reading, just click on the extension button in your browser toolbar to open the side panel. Select the portion of the webpage that contains the text to be processed by AI. You can select a whole page of text, or just a sentence or a single word, to be transcribed. Pick the language and time period that matches the handwritten text. AI-models have been trained on different types of text written during various time periods in many languages. You can apply more than one model on the same text and compare the results to achieve the best output. A snapshot image of the handwritten text you selected is sent to our web service for processing using the selected AI-model. You can easily copy the transcribed text and paste it into your genealogy research, your report or article. Finally, translate the transcribed text to your own native language, or modernize the language of an old document to make it more readable.
