Overview

Save images as JPG or PNG from the right-click menu. Convert still WebP, JPG and PNG locally. Choose a filename and folder.

Need to save a WebP image as JPG or PNG? Image Save converts the picture you select in Chrome, without uploading it to an online converter. It creates a real output file, not just a renamed extension. HOW TO USE Right-click a still image on a web page, choose “Save image as”, then your output format. By default, Chrome opens its Save As dialog so you can choose the filename and location. Open the extension menu for recent request status and settings. Prefer fewer dialogs? Turn on “Download immediately to Chrome’s download location”. This optional setting skips Save As and lets Chrome number duplicate filenames. Chrome manages the destination; the extension does not promise to remember your last chosen folder. WHAT IT SAVES • Still WebP, JPEG and PNG input, including conversion between the two output formats. • PNG output keeps transparency; JPG fills transparent areas with white and uses a 92% browser encoder quality setting. • The selected source is decoded and re-encoded, not merely renamed. Output uses the source’s decoded pixel dimensions, with image orientation applied. A responsive site may provide a smaller source than its original upload. • Filenames are based on the source’s final path component when usable. URL query strings are excluded; unsuitable names fall back to “image”. LOCAL CONVERSION, EXPLICIT ACCESS Conversion runs in your browser. Image Save may request the selected image from its original website; it does not upload the image to the developer or a conversion service. It has no account, ads or analytics. It does not read Chrome’s browsing-history database, but temporarily handles the chosen image/page URLs and save-request status. There is no required all-websites host grant at installation. If a selected image on another host cannot be read, the extension may offer one optional access request for that image host. Approval persists until removed and covers every path and port on that hostname for the displayed scheme—not just the chosen image. You can decline, or remove a saved grant in “Previously granted image-host access”. Access does not guarantee a successful save. LIMITS Input: up to 8 MiB, 16 million pixels and 8192 pixels per edge. Output: up to 20 MiB. Larger results are rejected, not silently resized. At most two save requests can be active. GIF, animated PNG/WebP, SVG, AVIF and other unlisted input formats are not supported. Redirecting sources, restricted pages or embedded frames, expired links, damaged images and site access rules can prevent saving. The extension reports a failure instead of substituting a screenshot or silently flattening an animation. It does not preserve original metadata, guarantee archival color fidelity or bypass website access controls.
