Overview

Volume leveling, fades, gap closing and key/BPM ordering for YouTube Music™. Learns on your device after you agree; sends nothing.

Fadewise smooths the joins between tracks on YouTube Music™. It analyzes the tracks you play, on your device, and from then on evens out their volume and fades only the endings that cut off abruptly. When you turn them on, it also closes the gaps between tracks, overlaps them, and orders the queue by key and BPM. FEATURES • Even out volume per track: remembers each track's loudness and brings it towards a common target. Tracks not analyzed yet use YouTube's own loudness value. • Automatic fades from the analysis: a 2–4 s fade-out only for tracks that stop while still loud, aligned to beats and bars when the tempo is steady. • Close the gap between tracks (off by default): at the last sound of a track, the extension presses the player's "Next" button to skip the silence at the end. Silence at the start of the next track is skipped too, as far as the analysis shows it is silent (up to 6 s). Tracks heard for the first time are handled too, by finding the silence at the end while it plays. The fade adapts to the next track's tempo and key, and album tracks that run into each other are left as they are. • Overlap tracks (experimental, off by default): at the end of tracks heard before, the playback speed is raised for a moment and up to 10 seconds played ahead are held in memory (never saved), then played over the start of the next track, while the silence at the start of the next track is played faster. How long they overlap is chosen for each pair. Two ways to blend: Auto (default) picks a blend for each pair and moves the bass from one track to the other partway through (the extension filters the sound of both tracks); for pairs with close tempos and a steady beat, the next track comes in slightly shifted so the beats line up. Simple changes only the volume. • Where to join: Gentle (default) skips a quiet intro and cuts a quiet outro. Bold (experimental) starts the next track at its first chorus and leaves the previous one at the end of its last chorus. Auto uses the Bold points only where they are confident. • Order tracks by key and BPM (off by default): after every track change, the analyzed tracks among the next 12 are moved within the queue into the order that flows best (up to 6 per change; albums only if you tick a separate box). Tracks you moved yourself stay where you put them. • Marks on the seek bar for fades, the overlap, where the bass swaps, "Next" and join points, and BPM and key for each track in the queue. • One switch for everything: Full, Gentle (volume and fades only) or Off. Any track can be set to "Leave this track alone". • The popup shows what it did for the playing track: the volume change, how it followed the last track, and the last reordering. A button copies the timing of the last 5 track switches (numbers only), for reporting a gap that felt too quiet. • Keyboard shortcuts: all off / back on (Alt+Shift+F), leave this track alone (Alt+Shift+X). • Optionally answers the "Continue watching?" prompt (off by default). • English and Japanese UI. IT WORKS BETTER THE MORE YOU LISTEN On a track's first play, it only levels the volume by YouTube's value and skips the silence at the end. Fades, the way tracks are joined and ordering work from the second play; Bold join points after one play of the whole track. WHAT IT DOES NOT DO It never opens a second player, downloads or records tracks. Playback stays in the YouTube Music player. DATA • On first use it shows what will be stored and saves analysis results only after you agree. • Stored on this device only: video ID, title and artist; numbers computed from the audio (for the whole track, its start and end, and its join points); a record of what was applied on recent plays; tracks set to "Leave this track alone"; a log of reordering (times and counts only); your settings. Nothing is sent anywhere. Audio is never stored (with "Overlap tracks" on, a few seconds are held in memory only, while they play). The switch timing (numbers only) is kept only in temporary storage that is cleared when the browser closes, and is never sent; it is copied only when you press the button. • Analysis and saving can be turned off in the popup. The "Saved analysis" page shows the data and can export it to JSON, import it, or delete it all. • Runs only on music.youtube.com; the only permission is "storage". Nothing is analyzed or adjusted during ads. YouTube and YouTube Music are trademarks of Google LLC. Fadewise is not made or endorsed by, or affiliated with, Google LLC or YouTube.
